F350 turbo diesel, :D ... I'm assuming you're joking here as well.

My Dad has an '09 F150 4 wd and it's a nice truck.

An F350 is a little out of my price range, and pretty much the exact opposite of what I'm looking for.

I am not sure where this thread is going but E did you find a car yet with all the wonderful information in this thread?

(this is what I posted earlier.. but my phone wouldn't post the message..)

Chief, LOL.. love that picture. .. and sometimes I wonder.... I got into this hobby (and started this thread) to relax and marvel at the beautiful ocean creatures... and if someone has a different opinion than I.. it's fine by me.

Why anyone would get so worked up over a person's car and if they like it or not is beyond me. This thread was just meant to start talking about some inexpensive, fun to drive cars.. keeping it simple and fun to talk about.

I honestly couldn't care less if an Evo is faster than xyz car, or if you can buy a Ferrari with 200,000 miles for less than 20K.. or what engine the Dodge car has and if it's the same as xyz mitsubishi.. lol...

Let's just have some fun and not take things so seriously. :lol_large

Yeah sorry but s2000 is a chick car. It could be the fastest car in the world and still be a chick car.

Small convertible = chick mobile

Regarding buyin American made and supporting U.S. Workers...most hondas and toyotas sold in U.S. Are assembled in the states, by U.S. Workers.

Cars are gender free. I looked under the bonnet and didn't see any "signs" of gender :)

I've owned (and raced) a CRX and a Miata. I would LOVE to own an S2000. Heck, I'd sport a VW Cabrio if one fell in my lap.

To be honest, I didn't read the whole thread... So I hope this post is relative.

I just purchased a new gen Honda Civic SI late last year. This car is TONS of fun. new old stock, under $20K. Basically they come fully loaded (navigation being the only option). LSD, 6 speed tranny, nice wheels, brakes suspension and interior stock. Sporty, but refined and super reliable.

I plan on auto crossing this car as soon as it warms up.

I can fully recommend the 4dr as a fun, cheap, reliable car. the LSD helps the car pull hard out of turns and it is great in the snow.

who is the one who has no idea what we are talking about? aren't we giving opinions on what would be a good suggestion for e.inthec within the parameters he provided? we are not talking about what car we ourselves would drive or which car is faster than the other. if you would go back and read carefully 20k is what we're talking about. quick browsed through the ebay, craiglist, etc., 20k will get you around 2005-2006 evo with 40-50+ k miles. that's pretty used and most likely abused in my book.
you just have to know what to look for....you are correct on that one....sorry i don't work on cars...for an average person, one wouldn't really know what to look for. perhaps if we have been working on cars and buying used ones for a long time like you have we would know what to look for.
i never said the civic si was a sport car....i said that it fits the criteria given and that it was fun to drive. who is the one who has absolutely no idea what he's talking about...."good luck keeping up with an evo"!!! that makes me laugh, only a moron would compare the two.
eric(e.inthec) did not say he wanted a sportscar that goes really fast. he said a fun (to drive) car. fun to drive cars don't have to be the fastest ones. an s2000 is a fun to drive car and it's far from being really fast.

then later on

gt2- big horse power, rwd....is that junk.? oh wait gt3 is rwd also....and it doesn't even have a turbo. hmmm and last time i check a ferrari has big hp rwd.....must be junk also in your book. who is the one who has absolutely no idea what he's yapping about? have you ever owned the 996 turbo, gt2, and gt3? well i have.....the latter two with the rwd....i certainly would not considered them junk. and yes i wouldn't know if my 996 turbo, gt3, nor the gt2 would smoke the saleen nor the co6 in the street. only a**holes would do that in the street. it's the punk like you talking big trash who would do that.
you sir have no idea what you are talking about.

First of all I was suggesting a great all around car that is reliable, fun to drive, and is great in bad weather (which fwd and rwd cars cant compare) So I suggested an evo. I would also suggest any subaru wrx/sti/ or even forester xt. All of these cars can be found in good shape with low mileage under 25 grand. 20 grand with 40k miles for an evo 9? Like I said earlier you don’t buy used cars and work on them so its pretty tough to take your comments seriously. Just now I found this Evo 9 Mint condition 22 grand with only 20k miles. Thats pretty much brand new and most likely hasnt been beat on. http://forums.evolutionm.net/sale-cars-sale/473895-ny-2006-graphite-gray-evo-9-21-500-miles.html
Suggesting an s2000 is just ridiculous. They are overpriced and rwd 2 seater that probably is not practical (I would take a Mazda miata over s2k any day). The Evo is awd 4 door and reliable and can be had for a decent price.

When I said "junk on the street" is referring to mostly the big rwd hp domestics such as mustang/cobras/corvettes/chargers/ etc. When I say big power, I’m referring to 500rwhp +. So driving these cars on the street is really pointless. Most of these cars have poor build quality and really handle like complete garbage. I had a 2004 Mustang cobra, and let me tell you that this car was a total piece of ****. The rear end blew twice in the car, never mind the countless tranny problems I had. Also the car handled like complete trash and never got traction until like the end of 3rd gear. This doesn’t seem fun to drive in my book. No one here is talking about racing except you. I was just stating that these cars are not really much fun to drive on the street because they never get traction even with spirited driving (Not racing). Just gunning it in 2nd gear, you will spin out most of the time. So you are telling me that if you owned a gt2, gt3, or Ferrari you going to drive it like a grandma and never beat on it and go fast? Obviously Gt2 and Gt3s are not junk. Trust me if I could afford a gt3 rs, I would love to have one. I would take any of those cars, and they actually hook on the street fine because they don’t have ridiculous power are 50/50 weight distribution and are mid engine (same for most Ferraris, labmos and such). To me, comparing a Porsche gt2/gt3/911 turbo to an American car such as a mustang cobra or c6 z06 is just ridiculous. The build quality and engineering is light years ahead on the porches never mind the handling and reliability. Show me an American car that is pushing 435 hp out of a naturally aspirated 3.8 six cylinder engine? I don’t see why you are concerned that I enjoying racing and choosing a car that hooks over a car that spins out on the street 90 percent of the time. I gave my honest opinion about cars and enjoy racing, so that automatically makes me a punk huh? Dubs asked for my opinion and I gave it. If you have a problem with this, then all I can say is take your remarks elsewhere.

The goal here is to provide the OP with the best possible vehicle to fit all of his criteria. He is looking for something that is fun to drive, reliable and good in bad weather. Automatically this means it should be awd, and somewhat quick. Like I stated earlier an EVO is perfect, but if he doesn’t want something so flash and more refined, look at a legacy gt, or even the forester xt which has the 2.5 turbo and comes in a 5spd(Ultimate sleeper ). I have had many Subarus and I can tell you that these cars are have great build quality and are extremely reliable and fun. Never mind they are amazing in the snow. To me any Honda is just a waste of time, because they really can’t compare in bad weather Fwd just sucks.

I clock 25K to 30K miles a year. I don't consider any turbo or AWD car reliable enough for daily driving. FWD gets me to work every day. For the 3 days a year it snows in NY, AWD is not worth the hassle.

I don't know how much true driving the OP does. If AWD and Turbo is an option, L-GT's are great cars. Just be sure to upgrade the brakes!

I also like the VW R32 (love the styling and engine sound!). An Audi TT-225HP is also top of my list.

I would never buy a car from a car forum. I can't picture someone adding all those upgrades and not driving the car hard.

Why would you pick a miata over a s2k besides price?

I hate hondas and I dont like vtech. The miata has been around for many more years than the s2k has and is also lighter. It also has much more aftermarket support. They are the best car for autocrossing as many people will tell you.

The point was that just be looking I found an evo9 with low mileage around the 20 grand price range. To be honest with you cars sold on forums are usually more then ebay/craigslist/autotrader. The car seems legit and has a brand new clutch in it. It also has a warrente so it seems legit to me.

have you ever owned/worked on a turbo awd drive car? that is a pretty general statement Because i had an evo with 100k on it, never had a problem.

I worked at a performance shop before I became a full time MFG engineer, so no one else works on my cars. 100K is not high mileage. I bang that out that kind of millage in 2-4 years easy (and I own more than 1 car).

I've had a few older Subis (back in the 90's) and worked on a LOT of DSMs. I swore I would never replace another eclipse tranny. I changes trannies like most people change oil.

Thats cool. Yea I hear you on the dsm trannys, total PITA to change. Those cars are total junk I had a 1g and never again will I buy one. I did a clutch job on an evo which is similar setup to a DSM, probably one of the most difficult jobs I have ever done espically on jack stands. One of the reasons why I like subarus since they are a breeze to work on. Well 100k on a 2003 evo when I had it back in 2008 was alot of miles for that car back then. I agree 100k miles isnt alot, but most people rarely go above 150k on a single car.
