Not that I'm an expert or anything but I can tell you that any Subaru with a turbo is fun to drive and falls into your price range.

I would suggest an Audi A4 as well... Or how about a VW GTI...

This was my old A4

I currently drive a 2000 audi s4, and let me tell you if you dont know how to wrench dont ever buy an audi ( I have had 2 s4s and an a6). I dont care what you tell me, these cars need constant attention. Its worth it though becuase my runs low 11s and traps 125mph on oem turbos and stock motor. On another note for you, there is only one car that I would recomend if you are looking for something to drive. And that is a mitsubishi lancer evolution IX. I had an evo 8 which similar to an evo 9 just older, and I loved that car, absolute blast to drive, and I had mine with over 90k and never gave me a problem. The only thing I had to do was to change the clutch from all of the mileage. Drive one and you will know what im talking about. These cars are the raw deal, they outhandle anything and they are fast as hell. Can run 11s with just bolt ons. 4g63 FTW!!!!

Stratus = 3000GT I think not, Stealth= 3000GT The stratus has no mitsubishi counterpart. But the Galant, Sebring and Dodge avenger are all the same car

Im sorry your right (NOT) its a 2002 dodge stratus R/T it has a 3000gt 3.0l motor that has a mitsubishi stamp on it. listen when im wrong I admit it. but why dont you research it and then own up to being wrong I will wait right here.

E I like my 07 Grand Cherokee Laredo. Bought it in February of '08 with 17,000 miles, I bought a Chrysler factory 8 year 100,00 mile warranty for it and it came in out the door price of 18 and change. Have 42,000 on it and the only thing I had go on it was the rear gate latch had to be replaced. No mechanical problems what so ever. has the 3.7 V6 Not the fastest around but does a great job in the snow, rain and other bad weather. I know lots on here will say stay away from chrysler products but mine has done great by me. Also it doesnt have to have high miles to fit the under 20K price range.

Of course the warranty starts at the IN SERVICE date but mine was only in service for 10 months before I bought it so I didnt lose a lot of time on the warranty.

You know: I might consider a jeep. I'd go with a Wrangler or something though. That extra warranty was a
great idea though. Jeeps consistently get rated among the lowest in terms of reliability.

i'm surprised no one mentioned civic si. fun to drive. reliable. front drive. high resale. and brand new at your price range. subies are nice but at 20k, you'll be looking at an impreza...a little anemic for my taste. don't get a used wrx or evo....most are driven very hard and tinkered with especially the turbo and the ecu.(chipped). mazda speed 3 is a tad over the 20k mark plus i'm not a fan of turbo cars. s2000 is an awesome car...one of my favorites and i had many to compare to...some owned some belong to friends...from the old air cooled to the new water cooled 911, c4s, turbo, gt2 and gt3. boxter, cayman, bmw 3 and 5 series, m3, m5, z3 and z4, audi a4, vw gti, air cooled rx7's to the last rx7's of the mid 90's. wrx, sti, 280z-350z, supra turbo, hardtop mr2, civic si, viper, vettes, camaro's, mustangs, f150 lightning.....and the list goes on. did i mention i like cars?....lol.
i do strongly agree with buying american but i don't see a car that would fit the mentioned parameters(stressed on fun). german cars are too expensive to repair and none can be found for 20k.....don't buy a used german cars. i don't buy used cars any more.....don't like to tinker or pay someone to tinker with it constantly. i lease most my cars but that's not for everyone.
imo, civic si fits your bill and would be my recommendation.(oh you didn't mention if stick is ok with you?!?!?). if no stick, then tough to find fun new car with automatic around that price....civic coupe, mazda 3 hatchback, impreza, camaro and mustang-- rear drive but can always budget for some snow tires.

rent one for the week before you get a wrangler....i bought one for 3 months... because my buddy wanted one...we share cars kinda like a car swapping club.
it was a rubicon....imo the worst handling vehicle i have ever driven. i drive to queens on the major deegan...the car wants to change lane everytime i hit a bump.....lol. took a beating on the trade in for a mazda speed 6.

Unknow you are VERY VERY VERY wrong. The motor you mention is the V6 Eclipse motor, not the 3000GT motor. They havent even made that motor in years. I use to work for Dodge/Chryslyer and Mitsubishi was bought out by them. And when you just say Stratus not RT they are not the same car and still are not. My brother actually has a stratus RT and all the parts are the same as Eclipse 3.0. So go do your own homework. Sorry Indeed for this post.

I had a wrangler and like they say not a good choice. They handle like crap and the ride sucks. Go get a Pontiac G8 GT, GM still honors their warranty, That car has the older vette motor in it and can run in the low 13's with very little work and money. A tune will get you into hich 12's

Just picked up a fully loaded 08 accord v6 w/ 37,000 miles for $22k. Honda has a finance deal going right now. 3.9% for certified pre-owned.

I've only had it for a week but like it alot. Rides great. Nice pickup w/ 271hp. Drives just like the new TL but cheaper and not as ugly.
