As I agree that PSEG are just as bad as LIPA or LILCO, you need to remember that most of us were powerless for 5-14+ days due to Sandy. Part of the increase will be because of that. My balanced budget increased $50+ a month. I also don't have gas, so my oil bills have been $600-$800 a month for heat since December.
Don't forget that Obama and his EPA are attacking the fossil fuel industry and prices, in his words "will necessarily sky rocket". This is just the beginning.
On top of that, your tax share is increasing. People are grieving their taxes and those who don't will help pay up that loss. If you notice, your last assessment probably assessed down but your tax bill went up, usually more so on school taxes(the real thieves on LI). I can't see how the county can provide a litany of services for half the price of one school district. My property taxes are $12,700 annually in a modest home. And I do not live in Garden City or Muttontown. County tax=$4,300/School tax $8,400. F'ing crazy.
