Anyone remember when one of the many times LIPA raised their rates and gave a reasoning that because so many people we doing a good job conserving energy, their revenue was taking a hit? Any EVERYONE started raising hell because LIPA was the ones telling people ways to save energy? And then they quickly switched their song? That sh*t still has me fuming 'till this day.

Don't need a financial planner, I got a degree in finance. Unfortunately a degree doesn't come w a huge check, it's just a useless piece of paper.

Any waaaaaaaaaaay,.....

I've always been interested in finding out more about solar panels. I don't care if they make my roof ugly, as long as they would save me tons of $$$. But they are very very expensive to buy and install. I never understood how energy star appliances are so much more expensive than ones that are not. If they want people to pitch in an cut waste, price these things so almost anyone can afford them. I switched all my house lights to CFL's and going to go the LED route as well. On my tank, I went from MH to LED's and it cut my bill in half. But as I said, it seems like saving energy is darn expensive.

Those hours equate to $54,665/year AT MINIMUM WAGE!!!

If all you earned was $7.25/hr then you're 100% correct, your degree in finance did not pay off. :help:

Moneymak I worked hard for my money PAL. No one gave it to me and I earned every penny. If you worked 110 hours per week that means you made at least 825 per week and thats a minimum wage estimate so either you over spent your earnings on useless things not bills or you didnt listen to your professors in school. Im just tired of giving my hard earned money to these utility companies that make record earnings per year and have high CEO earning men and woman living in huge houses getting a electric break because they run PSEG. By the way this is my fancy job since you think everyone on here are doctors and lawyers

My property taxes and electric bill doubled since 2004. My income took a nosedive. I've grieved my taxes and taken a lot of steps to reduce utilities. Government spending is out of control! I can be conscientious about my finances, but how could I have predicted tax and utility increases like that? Plus, the economy tanked during this time. People are stuck in lousy situations, often beyond their control.

As I agree that PSEG are just as bad as LIPA or LILCO, you need to remember that most of us were powerless for 5-14+ days due to Sandy. Part of the increase will be because of that. My balanced budget increased $50+ a month. I also don't have gas, so my oil bills have been $600-$800 a month for heat since December.

Don't forget that Obama and his EPA are attacking the fossil fuel industry and prices, in his words "will necessarily sky rocket". This is just the beginning.

On top of that, your tax share is increasing. People are grieving their taxes and those who don't will help pay up that loss. If you notice, your last assessment probably assessed down but your tax bill went up, usually more so on school taxes(the real thieves on LI). I can't see how the county can provide a litany of services for half the price of one school district. My property taxes are $12,700 annually in a modest home. And I do not live in Garden City or Muttontown. County tax=$4,300/School tax $8,400. F'ing crazy.

I ran the numbers on all of the equipment that I run on my tank. (57 Rimless)

It costs me about $11.50/ month to run the tank at a rate of $.0900/kwh.

These numbers are higher than what I actually get billed but it was just for an estimate.

To me the 12 bucks a month is worth the joy in the hobby.

My equipment is as follows:
1 Ecotech Radion
1 WP 25
2 Koralia 425
1 100W heater
1 50W heater
Mag 5 Return Pump
MJ 1200 reactor pump
DA Reefkeeper

I calculated my tank uses about 1,580 KWH/year.

Actually it's $70 a day for 15 hr a day work. Much less than minimum wage. And it all went to rent over $250,000.00. What's your point? I know I could of bought a house w that.. if I lived off my parents for free. Not sayin that's what u did just saying buying a house or car isn't possible for most people.

And i don't think everyone is a doctor or lawyer but I do think 99.9999999% of people get cars and houses with help from parents/spouses. Saving money for a down payment while paying rent/bills/food/school is impossible unless your one of the lucky few.

And for those who complain about tax or utilities on homes is getting too expensive, here's an idea...... Buy a smaller house or rent like the rest of us. Hearing ppl complaint about this is like hearing a guy complain he got a flat tire on his Ferrari. Buy a fiat or take a bus.
