It wasnt that expensive, I am only using starfire ( or at least low iron glass, as its called out here ) for the two viewing panes, and its two panes of 12mm (i/2 inch) laminated together- which saves enormously on the cost. The answer to your question is at the top of the previous page.

The scope of your project (tank, not house) is quite amazing.

I tip my hat to you for putting forth so much effort and I can't wait to see the results.

Your sump looks bigger than my 300G tank!

Thanks Louey
The Sump is nearly as big as my existing tank, its 2mX700mmX600mm (6.6ftX28"X24")
Also accomplished yesterday was the throwing of self-leveling grout on the tank room floor. The stand area was leveled some time ago. The doorframe was also fitted and I cored the plumbing holes for the return and the sump line from the second tank (2"), as well as drilling some 1" holes in case of spillage.
Today hopefully we will epoxy the tank room and have the stand delivered, so we can commence assembling on Monday.

Also done was the live wiring of the tank room distribution board with 60 amps of power. Now there are lights and working plugs!

Oh, the small protruding piece of piping in the first photo in the post above is to accommodate 2 1/4 inch pipes, one to supply water to the RODI and the other to take RO waste away.

Some updates, the stand remanufacture has taken a lot longer than anticipated, and accordingly I am behind schedule. The stand will be dropped off this weekend, and it needs a coat of hammerite rustproof paint, then we can start assembling early next week. In the interim, the bulk of the plumbing has been done. Some photos below, including the return pump (pool pump) and the line plumbing the RODI waste into the swimming pool.

Some arbitrary pics of the sump in place and the plumbing. The plumbing is slightly more complex than normal as I will be running 2 tanks off the one pump and sump. I have also decided to install a pool filter after the pump, with the typical sand contents replaced with around 200 pounds of additional live rock. More on that next week when I get down to doing that part of the exercise.

where's that  icon?

Looking good! How long is the curing time for the silicone? I was told I needed to wait 2 weeks for my teeny 58 gallon tank, because of the thick seams. If that info is correct, you should have to wait quite a bit longer for the size of your tank. You mentioned your friend builds tanks for a living, so I bet he knows.

Its a nice blue rather than white... Mostly, I was just being a smart alec and wanted to comment more than a blank "nice tank build" comment.

As much as your tank build looks fun. I hope the whole remodel is going as you planned. I know from experience, it takes alot out of a person to go through a large project like yours.

Also done now is the installation of half of the railing for the light unit to fit on, the other half will go in today. Some pics of the rails and the runners which will enable me to move the lighting hood into the tank room for maintenance.

Trido, the blue PVC out here is high pressure PVC, we get the white stuff too, but it wont hold the pressures involved.

When it's filled and running, all that PITA is worth it. You can't imagine the stress I felt for my rebuild (with the problems I had), but it's all worth it now.
