Anyone scuba dive in NY???

I always dive everwere except NY and looking to plan a dive trip with a bunch of guys on MR. Anyone know any spots? Anyone down to plan a trip?? I see there is a boat that leaves out of point lookout,LI

yeah I know the dive boats in NY require at least 20 dives so sorry Matt,LOL
I know a good place if you want to get certfied, Right now is the time to do it because the end of May they go to the Rockways to actualy finish your real dive class and water is very clear, the longer you wait the dirty the water gets. They first teach you in a pool then finish there. Diving must be the best hobby in the world, to see all your coral just feels good.

my buddy free dives and spear fishes in greenport during the squid run and hits the race off of montalk during summer. no tanks just lung power or u will scare the fish

Best place to go is "Paradise Found" off LI when the tropicals are in the area. Otherwise you are talking about wreck diving. If you like wrecks this is the best place in the world to dive.

If you're interested in wreck diving, see if you can get a boat that's going to the Algol. It's a great wreck dive for both beginners and seasoned divers. The top of the wreck is at about 70', and the depth at the bottom is around 145'. It was sunk as an artificial reef, so hazards have been removed, making it a great penetration dive (only if you're a certified technical diver).

I haven't been diving in awhile, but if I remember correctly, I used to dive it on about a 28% Nitrox blend, and could get a decent bottom time if I didn't go too low on the wreck. You also may want to consider diving it in a drysuit. It gets pretty chilly down there.

If you've never done any wreck valley diving, you should probably do a refresher dive or two at Dutch Springs. Local diving is no joke. Check your equipment out, dive with redundant equipment, and be careful.
