I've been following this thread from the beginning, and have (until now) refrained from posting.
Here's what it really comes down to - How difficult is it to follow some simple rules and not have your threads/posts deleted? I have been here for 5 years now and can count on my hand the number of posts I've had deleted. I'm certainly no favorite, I just know what you're supposed to do and what you're not. The rules aren't difficult. Yes, a notification that your thread was deleted would be nice, but it's not owed.
Should mods be fair and even across the board? Of course, but that's much easier said than done. It was said that folks who normally follow the rules and don't cause trouble are given a bit more leeway. That's how life is.
If a mod is belittling or rude/etc.. why not just send that PM to the admin? From this thread alone, it looks like he'll take things seriously. And just because you don't hear anything more about it, that doesn't mean the mod wasn't spoken to.
I think a big issue here is that this is a small community where almost everyone is somewhat local. Mods get to know people and then have to do their "job" and I'm sure it gets uncomfortable. That's why on larger sites like RC they don't allow Mods to moderate their local forums. Plus, this is NYC, and we're not generally known for being polite or timid :lol2:. I say that last part in jest, but it's really something that is noticeable.
Ultimately, this hobby is for my relaxation and a challenge (SPS corals, for example). I definitely don't want drama.
Really the only thing I'd like to see changed on this site is more posts in the actual forums and less in the marketplace. That's another topic for another day, though. I should start a build thread
