Even if the water did not get your house some what, there is a high chance of power outage in your area.

I think you should board up the windows and go visit some in higher ground this weekend.

Al;so I think it's mandatory by the order of the city to evac.

batt600 is not that close to the ocean front, his place is towards the center of the Rock.:) I guess that is what he is counting on.;)
Unfortunately for us we are 2 blocks from the ocean, and approximately 6 or so blocks from the bay. Which means there is a good possibility of having the bay & the ocean meeting again as it did 50 or so years ago.;( God willing this will not be the case as we have no where to evacuate to other then a parking lot in one of the malls.:( So it will be: hubby, my 2 pittie girls, and me sitting in my suv for over 12 hours.
As far as my reef is concerned will be on it's own, and the kois in my pond will be lost.;(
Our cats should be OK.:) They can stay on the top floor.

May God bless, and keep us all!Amen

No not my phone if you go to the tv station not like 5 or 11 the real new that the gov doesnt controll . and the one in 91 there was no power outage for me i had my tank back then . This is just a scare so companys make money off us, look into bloomberges history he is a big stock holder in alot of companys like HD and Costco so every move he make is to make money for himself. And i have family in miami and it wasnt bad thay said it was overrated.

Right..

Put your tinfoil hat back on and go hang out at the beach on Sunday..

My thoughts are with you & your family Awilda  Please stay in touch!

I live about 175 FEET from a channel fed by the Jones Inlet. I have a basement..my office and well as my 3 reef tanks are down here. I also have a large Koi pond. I have dealt with a lot of scary stuff in my life but this is getting the better of me.

My cats are going to a dear friends house and we hope to grab the stray cats I have been feeding for years and get them into my house.

My boat is still in the water and has been very well secured to the dock (along with the other 4 boats that moor there), it is around the block from my house and I pray they all make it through.

Yeah, I have a whole house generator, but it will be quite useless if it is underwater:(

We have been moving things from the basement to upstairs for 2 days now, but I can't move my reef tanks. I will put the portable bubblers into all of my tanks (2 FW tanks upstairs as well) before I have to leave here and pray that I will see my fish friends again. I wish I could hug them all, they have all been with me for so long...

I wish all of you in the low lying areas the VERY best and hope all of your families and fish friends make it through ok.

I am upset beyond any words I can type here..please think good thoughts for my tanks, all I can do is cry when I look at them...

I just got the same email from 3 of my friends with "emergency" instructions for coping with the "hurricane" if by hurricane they mean the zombie/nuclear apocalypse. It details everything you need but stops just short of explaining how to properly attach a chainsaw to the front grip of a shotgun (in case you run out of ammo but still have gas and have to kill a few more zombies/looters). It's a little extreme and I think we're going to get some heavy winds and some flooding but I don't think it's going to be as bad as the networks are making it out to be. people are out on the beach in Florida giving news reports with big waves and it's only going to weaken by the time it gets up here. Be prepared, but I wouldn't stock the underground bunker just yet.

Florida was NOT in it's path!!!!!!!!!!! We on the other hand are!;(

Kathy, Wingo one of my son's gf has opened her door to all of us, including our pits.:)

I don't scare easy, but I am terribly worried as well. All I can think of is the awful smell I will be coming home to.;( There is absolutely nothing I can do to secure my reef, or my pond for that matter. And then of course there are the rumors already flying of the looting that will be going on.
I leave everything in God's mighty hands, and will continue to pray that Irene will decide to weaken, and move further out to sea.

Please be safe my friends, adopted brothers, sisters, sons & daughters.;):grouphug:

I heard on the news that the storm is weaker than expected. It'll be bad, but might not even be a hurricane (technically) by the time it gets here. Luckily, I'm above the surge zone and don't (hopefully) have to worry about that. My only fear is what if the power is out for more than a day. Oh well, it's in mother nature's hands now.

Good luck all and stay safe!

It's not a perfect science in weather prediction anyway. Remember how often we #(#$@&A*()%_&_ the weather forecasters and how quickly they loose their jobs?

It's really hard to say how much it will be down graded or pick up again by the time it hits here. If it lands elsewhere earlier our problem is less but if it glides by Maryland NC without landing along the coast and hit NYC more with the side of the ocean, the tidal wave is something you cannot dismiss. You can review the footage back last tsunami in Japan. Just one single wave can swap away a whole village and ALL the cars, trucks, HOUSES along it's path. The recounts, by an eye witness of the 1938 Hurricane in NY, descirbed explicitly that when the eye of the hurricane passed over NY, ALL 78 houses were swept away with only one standing in a county close by the sea. Secondly, our soil is already saturated with the rain last week, with the additional down pours, I am sure flash flooding will be everywhere. I am going to clean out all the drains around my block to be sure.

Just read that it's current peak sustained winds are 100mph just enough for a category 2 but it's already weakening and by the time it hits the Carolinas it will be a cat 1 and weaken even more while it slowly crawls up here. It will do some damage but some were saying it might not be a hurricane by the time it gets to us.
