It's nice to have some mixed up in case of an emergency, that way a water change can be done in minutes in case of contamination or something gone wrong where you aren't quite sure whats going on, it's saved many a tank from crashing. Best reguards Terry

Small piece of shrimp about every other day. Test for nitrite , when there is no more nitrite tank is cycled. Keep the shrimp going in until you put some live stock in there and then discontinue the shrimp. Thats nitrite not nitrate to be tested. Take care Terry

I would not turn lights off for more than 2 days, but this has worked for us a number of times. We got this information off of this fine board a while back. As far as the carbon you could put some in a bag and put in front of a water flow in your tank. Take care, Terry
