Wingo, the DIY yeast factory is not on the tank in question (46). The one I was talking about is on the 29, and it's made by nutrafin. Store bought.

I know. My point is that when you copy the design from Nutrafin, you did not realized the nutrafin of your 29g is designed poorly.

It should have been using two bottles like this(Actually, I should relabel the CO2 factory into Sake Factory :thrash: )

I put back duckweed into the my little "Palm Beach" and the fish are crazy about it, so are my birds. I just hope the tank can grow enough for both to eat. Originally, I was thinking the turtle should be the one that is happy but turns out that he care less of the 420(weed). Still only eat the pellets.

Noticed the clam sink back into the sand from last time I picture this tank. I have 3 originally, but last time when I count, there are four. Where did it come from? Did they :bunnies:? But then why only one more not a whole bunch? :scratchch
This morning that bigger golden clam has already moved to the gravel side of the tank. Would like to see them "swim" in person. I guess have to make a red flash/spot light and sit there in front of it for a whole night sleek on them.

The congos are all dead it was too late. I lost every other tetra I had, too, but no other species. The platty's, severum, frontosa, barbs, danios, loaches are all fine. I'm treating with EE. That's in the 29g.

In the 46, the lighting is killing me, the 10,000k algae factory has to go! I'm using my 20w sockets with 2 zoo-med tropic-sun 5500k bulbs and with the dual actinic 65w, the plants should be ok, but the algae has slowed down a lot!
Finding the 6700k bulbs with the square pins is tough locally, I guess I'll have to go with Hellolights.com, but I haven't had luck with shipped bulbs.

I'll make the mods with the co2 reactor, don't know what to do with the nutrifin, maybe just add another small bottle as overflow.

But still, Could the fermenting yeast solution that got into my tank have caused the bacterial infection?

Sake Factory?
You put rice in the reactor? LOL!

But really, some DIY recipes include a teaspoon of baking soda to buffer against acidity, and keep the yeast active for longer. Do you do this?

Next time I will and then I can try my home made Sake. HAHA
I put sugar.

I don't put baking soda and if the solution smell like vinegar instead of alcohol, you definately have bacterial infection in the factory.

Either bacterial infection or too much alcohol has get your fish drunk(J/K). Alcohol hurts the fish's liver.

OK. So, I'm about 2 weeks into this. I've battled an algae bloom, mostly cleaned it up, reduced lighting, and I've done water changes without adding chlorine remover (uh, oh! RODI Police!, LOL!)
That has had the effect of not allowing new algae to grow where I cleaned it, and preserving the algae on the wood where I want it!
The java moss is still settling in, and most of the plants had algae covering the leaves but now there is new clean growth and side-shoots.

I want to add duck grass, but I have the Emperor 400 filter, and the waterfall-like return pushes anything floating under water, getting it caught everywhere. I need to get an eheim, preferably used (my budget) so I can keep the duck grass floating!

Couple more. The scratches on the glass are from the reef tank algae, I neede to use Scotch-Brite to get the marine algae off. Probably got some sand mixed up in it too. Oh, well......

Yep! It may look strange now since everyting is of similar height, but as it grows, the effect will be much better!

Hey Sean, I saw some of your postcard sized business cards on the L train yeterday! I guess that's from the guy who was giving them out on Union!
