I'm thinking of it. Sean has Killies usually.
Here's my tank, before I re-scape it. I'm gonna make it better.
NO PLASTIC in there. No flash pic.

I had a planted 29 gallon tank with angel fish and amazon sword plants when I was 12.

The plants out grew the tank and so did the fish.

I love the look of those planted tanks, I think one next to a reef tank would be cool.

That's how I have mine, just to show the contrast. Honestly, before I took up this reef hobby and learned a lot from you guys, I never would have tried it. It helps I have PC lighting left over from my upgrades. That's 67w of fluorescent on there.

HMM I don't know about a sump, per say, because a skimmer is useless. Maybe a wet/dry. However, if you read into that site, they recommend that you use no filter at all, as the plants take up all the nitrates, etc. Kind of like mangroves in a sump. The more Co2 and nitrates, the healthier the plants! If you use a sump with plants or algae, you'll starve the plants in the main tank. And, the plants will starve algae, so it won't grow! I've had this going under 4x13wpc's 2 6500k and 2 actinic, and 1 15w NO fluorescent tropic sun 5500k (total 67w) and I don't have a speck of algae.

The least flow the better, as too much flow dissipates the Co2. The plants produce all the oxygen fish need, if desired an airstone can be turned on at night for the fish when the lights are out and the plants aren't photsythesizing and producing oxygen or taking in Co2.

latest tech in fresh water planted tanks does include skimmers. Ousponseor ELOS has them. Generally they use just a filter. An awesome one is the superjet series filter prefered by Takashi Amano. As far as flow goes - very little. Generally the flow produced by the filters return will suffice. CO2 is good to have but not mandatory.

However if you choose your plants and inhabitants wisely you dont need a filter at all. Lights are generally in the range from zctinic to 6500k.

wow those needs are the opposite of a reef tank.

and those tanks you linked to Andres, they are all incredible works of art.
if I were a fish I'd be happy to live in any of those.
