I think I need a planted aquarium to relax me from the stress of keeping a reef tank :D the sad part is it's true!
Except a planted tank is just as difficult to maintain (if you want a nice one). Spare your self the trouble and just resort to alcohol!!:icon16:

Very clear tank you have there and aglae controll is also perfect judging from the pic. I have to see it in person. Are we still meeting up about the Danio or something? Pleae PM or call me, either way is fine. The other day, while buying from other MR members in Queens, I called you couple times but no answers, please call me to verify whether I get your number right. I will try tomorrow. Hopefully, the other seller is ready with his fish so that I can do it in one trip. Oh, do you want to bring something this Sunday to my club and trade stuff?

One of my tank just got new babies but very hard to find them because of the thick java moss. They are really hiding. Too many biggies lurking around at least 22 of them. :shocked1: :irked: :banghead:

how about a 15 gallon?

I have that spare QT set up I made, it even has that old school cover I like

without a sump I could set it up in my bedroom even.

so Gerry how much does a FW tank cost to put together? I have some PC lights, and an extra set of 175 MH :D is it just the CO2 bottle then?

wow those needs are the opposite of a reef tank.

and those tanks you linked to Andres, they are all incredible works of art.
if I were a fish I'd be happy to live in any of those.

right!

reminds me of that movie w/ Robin Williams +Cuba Gooding Jr. living in the painting after death.:wow: im a geek

Haha that Japanese guy of those tanks are great art master besides being an aqua master. He hardly uses any red while we in US mostly like to use red as highlight.:smoker: If you want to keep too many different spieces together , it will be hard to control.

Oh what year is this photo, when did he put the dicuss in?

You don't need the 175MH for a small tank like 15G. You just have to give that to me and I give you something good enought for the 15G :smokin: :p

If you like DIY the most expensive thing is the light. The CO2 can be DIY and u can even use the Flourish Excel(liquid carbon). Layering the substrate is the key. Many strategy we can use to have different effect. My abandoned 10G still looks Ok and great while heavily populated, they still spawn offsprings!

PC lights would be good for a fw planted 15g, 175 MH would be overkill. You can easily make a DIY co2 bottle from a soda bottle, the fuel is sugar, yeast and water. Dirt cheap! Just drill a hole in the cap and glue an airline into it. Let it discharge into your filter intake to mix with the water. That's it.
The hardest part is finding the plants you like, you have to go WAY beyond petland. Sean has some nice ones, Fishtown has a lot, you have to look around. They can add up in cost, but still way cheaper than corals! LOL

Now I wish I grabbed that 30g square Oceanic that was on LI a couple of days ago!

hehe, hey Gerry I joined the site and gave your name as a reference :)

Wingo, I've been a fan of Mr.Amano's for a long time. His aquascaping is amazing to say the least. Long before I set up my reef tank I contemplated a planted aquarium, that's when I found Mr.Amano's books.

Is it that simple, some PC lights and a soda bottle? hah!

I imagine there are plenty of places to order the plants online.

So what are the acropora of FW plants? :D

damn, after looking at these masterpieces (amazing pics in this thread), it might be time to switch back to FW... I had a great 30G FW 15 years ago, but with about 1% of the aquascaping creativity and/or simplicity!

:bigeyes2: that last tank is off the hook!!

I love the room it's in also, I want to live in that space :)

I think that tank is 10'x4'x4' not a bad size

some fw (or brackish water) reefs don't require any plants or special lighting at all: african cichlid reefs. you just throw down crushed coral and a classic center reef of large stone and call it a reef. most of the color and diversity comes from the different species of ac's.
