Member Organized Events

Many people have asked "What happened to the M&G threads?"

MR has allowed and even sponsored user events in the past. We all like to trade some corals, talk reef, and maybe have a beer or four. We are not going to tell you how and when you organize events, but clearly we need a set of rules around what is advertised in public on this site.

While some people may love the idea of small swaps, they can quickly get out of hand. We would rather have a bunch of events that are well organized and supported by the site moderators and administration than issues with conflicts around events.

I'm sure everyone will understand that we cannot allow all events to take place. There are bound to be conflicts with existing site events, problems with vendors who are not registered on MR, and concerns about who benefits from organizing these activities.

Given these concerns, we are putting together a set of rules (much like the rules that Group Buy organizers follow) to make sure these events are run appropriately and receive the necessary support required.

Any issues or advice, please feel free to contact any of the moderators.

Guy I know you are going on about the meet n greets but it is a dead issue on this site thanks for the support but it is ok. We have the mr swapp and also maby mr will put a meet the members in place once a month

heres a quote form another thread that "kinda" clears this up....as far as rules go..

You are free to organize events. MR was started in the backroom of bars and restaurants.

While we do not have a formal set of rules at the moment (an effort was made to create them but there were too many holes that were circumvented too easily), we are working on something concrete.

To be clear, what you cannot do is this:

Charge members admission or membership fees for your events
Deal exclusively with one vendor and not make efforts to bring in alternatives
Have multiple threads with selling activities
An auction where the destination for the funds raised is not publicly identified
Be accommodating in your scheduling in regards to other MR events (i.e. swaps)

You'd be surprised how much we actually support events that follow these basic rules. If the event is organized and meets these basic requirements, MR will typically help make the event a success by paying for food and refreshments, providing free items, samples, and livestock donated by several national vendors.

LOL we do not need any more fule for the fire. We should just thank mr for having the thread up for as long as it was and move on. I know it sounds crazy but this is the way it is.

i hate people who snich if the event have not taken place yet and there was no issue with mr y should they pull the westchester meet and greet.. dont be a hater y should the good suffer for the bad this meet and great have no connection to the one in queens so let the guy putting it together have chance
