IMO!!!!
Meet & Greets are way more on the personal side,more one on one talk trade ect.
While "SWAPS" are more buy and get out the way so more people can buy lol .... And you have to pay to spend money :-/ still don't get that part...IMO

The day I have to pay to "Meet & Greet" I won't attend ...IMO

PS: as for the mods and this site: I love the site and like the mods are okay ;-) ....... IMO....lolz

+1 on the event name change.

The officially official MR Swap is barely a swap... It's more of a vendor free for all. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I agree that the name of the event should reflect the actual event it self. I'm not that creative so maybe some creative folk can chime in with a fancy shmancy name.


*and please no one point out to me that there is some "swapping" that goes on at the MR "swaps", but the majority of trades are cash transactions..I along with several other members would love to see a true swap system worked out. Like Kathy said no one wants to trade Kenya tree for some rare fancy Zoanthids... But there could be a swap system devised which will allow people with any "caliber" of coral trade.

We've discussed in the past about changing the name of the Frag Swap, as the event has evolved to the point where it's a lot more than a Frag Swap, even though there is some swapping going on. The thing is that there is some history to the name, as well as member recognition to it, so it has stuck. In the same stoke the M&G, in Queens & LI, aren't meet & greet, or frag swaps either, they're actually very similar in some ways to MR's Frag Swaps, though a lot smaller.

Who is this person? I have 5 frags of kenya tree. I'll even throw in a strip of GSP. All I ask in return is a frag of red, purple and blue hornets!

I have been to every M&G and not once was I asked to pay some type of entrance fee, for those of you who have been to a M&G tell me if you have paid.I think it is totally unfair for anyone to put some type of negative cloud over these M&G's, especially if you have not been to one. Please do not assume because you know what they say about that... And you wont be making one out of me. I just cant keep reading this crap and let it go unanswered.
At the M&G breakfast and lunch is provided and I have personally seen some of the tabs for lunch. I have offered to help out for the cost of food and have been declined. I'm going this week to Harry's M&G and will continue to go to as long as they are being held.
And for the Wes M&G I wish you guys nothing but success, and I mean it not like some who say they like the idea but wanted you to fail the whole time... If this comment doesn't apply to you, some of you might be familiar with this if it doesn't apply let it fly...

Just because there was one vendor at a M&G (which was there to offset food costs), doesn't necessarily mean that its just like a MR frag "swap"... the main goal of the M&G was to meet up with other hobbyists, make friends, hang out, check out tanks, trade some coral, purchase some coral.. I'm not denying that there was never coral purchased, but it was between members... not a vendor looking to make money. There are lots of young adults in this hobby, like myself which absolutely love this hobby, but can't afford to fill even a nanocube up with some coral/fish because of vendor prices, so by purchasing from other members, you can grab your self a nice deal - if you have nothing worth/willing to trade.

It seems like everything is about the $...
every day life is all about money... so I guess - why shouldn't this site & hobby be about it too.

I never made it too one but did love the idea and know a lot of the people involved in making thi s event happen I do agree with stann and hope things can b resolved between mr and mng

I don't understand why the thread was pulled at this stage of the game (M&G #7), it should not have been pulled if there are going to be rules that have to be heeded they should have been put in place much earlier on. Maybe I'm expecting too much.

Yea your right inferno it should have been stopped along time ago not on m&g #7 but I think it didn't because people probably thought it was gonna phase out and die out but since it didn't and it has become a successful event people wanna now get there cut or impose fees like everything else once something is doing well people want in I know josh will b workin things out with the doc I hope hey what's up noel I c u pal

In addition. I have heard nothing but wonderful comments about these events. It seems to me that the members running these events are very dedicated reefers, DONATING their time and facility. I dont really see the harm in this. The non existent rules seem to be being followed. No?

Actually there was more than one vendor there, and that's not counting the SV.

I'm not sure how many MR Frag Swap you've gone to, but they include many of the things you just mention in your post. We try to make them educational as well as selling events. We have many demos and guest speakers come in, and we also try to bring in vendors from the outside that have great and unusually livestock, and lets not forget the tours of Randy's tanks at Pratt. There are also many members that sell, a lot of times for cheap too. And lets not forget the donation bins, and not just donations from members, we get things from DF&S,LA, ORA and LFS around the area. These items go for a fraction or what they normal cost or for free. We give away tons of free frags to members. And lets not forget we also give away a lot of frags from the Fragging Demos. If you needs things, because you're just starting out, or you don't have the funds, there isn't any reason you would leave the swap without something. So, does this sound kind of familiar?

In life most things are about money. You'll find on this site for some people it's about money too, but not for everyone.

if some one give me alist where the money goes and what it get used for i have no problem with forking over some cash.
but every time i ask where the money goes no one steps up to the plate and say where it goes.
so how many people where at the last frag swap?
say 75 so 75 times 25 =$1875 sound right
and i know there was more then 75 people there
and i understand we need servers and internet i got that but really where does all the money go?:irked:

You just posted this on a very graphic intensive, feature rich, FREE website.

Just because you only see the front end does not mean there is not an incredible amount of work happening on the back end.
