.....my main concern is reports that SPS do not color up as well under the solaris as they do under my MH.

It's not true, see the pictures I just posted or come to the LIRA meeting today, you can compare the same type of corals under LED and MH side by side. Actually, any corals with florecent colors will show the best under LED.

yeah ur pics are giving me second thoughts. i dont think its just a matter of placing the coral temporarily under LCD, growing under LCD for prolonged periods may result in different colors (browner according to many on RC). i was about to buy it till SPS critics turned me off.

I have "I" series. PFO did not ship "I" series until Nov. 2007, and they claimed it is equal to 400W MH. Most corals actually look lighter/brighter under "I" series.

The older series such as "H" was only equal to 250W MH or less, and possibly the corals turned browner.

James your tempting me. The concern is i may not have another chance to get an american made LED fixture ("I5 Series") and especially not at clearance prices

Who is selling PFO LED lights at clearance price?

"Buy American Made Products" have been well supported recently, and emotionally I am also doing it, but the US economy will further be deteriorated if more and more like us follows, and the world economy will definitely be collapsed if other countries follow, I mean,

German buy German made products,
English buy English made products,
Korean buy Korean made products,
Canadian buy canadian made products,
Chinese buy Chinese made products,
Japanese buy Japanese made products,
Mexican buy Mexican made products,
Kenyans (?) buy Kenya made products,

Obama reminded us that this is United States, but he forgot to tell us this is a United World.

hey, looK at it from the patent hoLder's point oF view :) they got in there fiRst... stop crying aBout what they wanna do with their patent. it's theirs and they have EVERY right to do with it what they want.

if it was someOne you liked enforcing their patent, am sure ya'LL be on their side.

it's just businesS, stop compLaining and stop foLLowing the MR 'herd'... :sigh:

"Got it there first" is a good business strategy but patent laws are originally designed to protect real "inventions" with real substance not blah blah blah then claim the whole world is his. The lawsuit mentioned does not seems to me nor most of the tech world and the aquarium world that the patent holder has any invention in this-it's just a broad descriptions of things that already in the world long time before it's submitted. To me, it's stating the obvious not invention. The patent system has been played to act as a harassing tool to extort companies/individuals who cannot afford time, money, or energy to play the game. It has acted more of a technology reversing tools than a technology stimulus thing.

I'd like to remind everyone of my earlier point - we only know one side of this issue. Patent laws and intellectual property rights are very important and emotions should not be involved in this debate. We only know one side of this issue and that is not enough to make a judgment. Maybe its baseless, maybe its not. Regardless, I highly doubt this will be the end of the aquahobby LED technology. If they are spending all this money on a lawsuit, they most likely intend on developing and/or marketing this technology at some point or it would be a waste of their money to sue. If all they were after were royalties, then it would not be in their interest to force PFO or any other company to close but rather to defend their patent in such a way that would allow PFO and others to remain in the market and be viable so that they can pay royalties.

Which side of the issue you are hearing so far?

Injections of our opinions may be tilted one side but both the lawsuit, the denied application, and the patent are in public records and linked in the swarm of posts. It just take us forever to read thru all of them, and the links, and then links within links.

Most posts here have been based solely on the link to the article. A few have referred to various public records but I highly doubt, as indicated by your post, that anyone has properly gone through all the relevant public records or read the proceeding transcripts.

So true.

In fact, I read the PFO denied application prior to this controversey, and some one showed me the draft of the Orbitel earlier but I mistakenly think that it's a joke.

You only have to look as far as the other cases that have set precedence in cases like this one to know that this is really a huge extortion scheme. They're willing to force them to close just to make them pay out a bigger settlement. If they really do have a product to bring to market they should just debut it to the world already and prove they aren't just abusing the weak patent application system.

FYI: Owning a patent doesn't mean/require the holder to bring a product to market.

Correct.

Getting a patent approved is required to be an invention/innovation/or at least very geniune in nature to improve over prior arts....

Killer,
I feel it's not the system that's weak but officers of the patent officers are weak or better to say not appropriate. A lot of those are approved by staff not in the field at all. A schoolmate of mine is a staff of the patent office graduated with electrical engineering degree but the applications he handled last times we met were all different toys for the adults and not one has any electronics in them.:shhh: I joked with him about what makes him the experts in this realm of health or entertainment. LOL

And this is why it's become a technology roadblock rather than advancing technology like it should be.

Doing something to advance "technology" is just pure fantasy world. Things are done to make money not so everyone has the best product. It's just like Ink posted before, this is business. Orbitel got the patent and they have the right to do with it what they want, including making as much money as they see fit off of it. Orbitel is protecting their patent, which I'm sure they invested a lot of time and money into. They also see it as and asset and want to make as much as they can off of that asset.
