I forwarded your comments to Przemek and Leszek - lets wait for their response.

Honestly, I have not had a time to clean the front glass of my tank in the last 2-3 weeks sine we had a little baby boy on December 19th. I just set the light on basic settings for now. but it looks like it is Leszek area of expertise so hopefully he will help out.

Rafal,
It's at 100%
Have you played around with the PAR program yet?

You need master unit to control the slave unit. You could probably buy slave unit, have someone to set it up and you could go with that setting, but you would not be able to change anything unless connected to the master unit again.

so technically, yes, you can go with slave unit only, but without having any power to control the unit once it is set.

i would like to know this too.!

Thanks Rafal, I've been talking to Leszek and he is bouncing around some new ideas.

Restarting lamp is necessary in some cases. PC application is storing data into eeprom memory of Lamp's uProcessor. uP must transferr this data from eeprom to RAM memory to let the algorithm work correctly. It is made during restart time.

So the correct way is
1 - connect
2 - read all data stored into processor
3 - change settings you want to change
4 - click "send" buttons
5 - restart lamp
6 - disconnect & enjoy

"probe" button gets the data from eeprom memory. You don't have to read all data immediately after connection - you can connect, abort reading with pressing "NO" button, and with particular "probe" button you may check for example - sunrise time only, correct it, restart and disconnect.

the problem with moonlight is simply to explain - for some people 100% moonlight is to bright, so they lowering the power to 10-5%. In that case there is a few days in moon cycle where moonlight is simply off because of way the processor calculates moonlight power. Whole period has 28 days. First 14 days, the power is going down, next 14 days it is going up. When moonlight power is set to 100% there is only one night without moonlight - at 14th day. 15th day the power is 100% * 5%, 16th day = 100% * 10% etc.

If You set moonlight power = 5% you have

14th day = 5% * 0% = total darkness...
15th day = 5% * 5% = 0,25% - it is impossible to see the led light with such power
16th day = 5% * 10% = 0,5% - its still not ehough...
17th day the power will rise to 1% and you will see the weak led light.

the same is with 13, 12 ad 11th day - so with 5% moonlight power you have max 7 nights without moonlight.

So You must remember, the low power of moonlight you set, the more "dark nights" you have.

Has anyone found an easy way to set these up without hanging them from the ceiling, as the kit doesn't come with legs? I know that there are some DIY hanging options out there but I don't really have the workspace for such projects. I am getting a new tank that has an open top is 24"x13" (so not very deep), any advice would be appreciated...

These lights are really meant for hanging, whether from the ceiling or from a hang pipe. Legs will not work because the unit is only about 18" long x 10" wide. It just wouldn't be physically possible. You could make some kind of bracket or rails for it to sit on.

Hi All,

This seems to be the best place I've found for discussion of the US Version of these lights, I'm wondering if a single 120w would be sufficient for a 57g mixed reef tank (36"x18"x21") or if I would need to get two of them?
