Haven't gotten to hook mine up yet, but my AWESOME homeboy made me a custom lexan top for my Biocube...I think I'm gonna put it on little spacers and just down the intensity of the lights...pretty pumped...hopefully hook it up tomorrow!

ok i put the light on some small spacers...so it's only about 3" from surface, but with such a small tank (29g) light coverage is fine...a couple of questions though...i saw people turning down the full daylight...i dropped it to 50%...is this cool? I'm going with a color temperature of a little over 20k right now...the one annoying issue is once I turned the full daylight intensity down, I have this HIGH pitched noise coming from the power supply...any ideas? :(

Unfortunately that usually happens with switching type power supplies (They pack a lot of power in small footprint but the downside is the noise they can create under certain circumstances) when they aren't under full load and depending on the algorithm the processor running. Try increasing and decreasing the color temp and see if there is a change in the sound then try increasing the output at 5% increments and monitor the power supply noise. I believe when you change the color temp the pitch of the noise from the power supply will change and when you increase the output the power supply will become quieter.
Can you post some pics of your fixture at max and some other levels and color temps?

There is a simply way to fix this and the noise from p.supply will disappear. As I know current made Pacific Sun lamps are updated wit this "patch", so the "noise problem" is resolved.

With PAR option you are able to change amoutnt of light in your aquarium. You can set up to 40 points with different light power factor at particular time and in result get something what is on picture below.

Looks great!!

I'm intrested in getting some LED's but not sure which ones to get.

Anyone know the difference between the Pacific Sun and Aquailluminations? I believe AI has good external controller support (ie. DA and Profilux) and appears to be a little cheaper.

http://www.aquaillumination.com/

Don't know which way to go. Any comments welcome.

I am betting - PS has much better computer unit and it is built in. But I am not impartial - PS is from Poland and I am a patriot :)

The AI unit has a controller but it can also work with 3rd party controllers.

Does Pacific Sun have better LEDs? What kind of LED's are PS using?

With this technology being so new it's hard to compare things apple/apples and make an informed decision.

Hello everyone,

Sorry I've been MIA, don't have a computer until Monday. I just wanted to give technical comparisons between AI and Pacsun.

The main difference is between the school of thought. Pacsun uses the idea is low 1watt LEDs interlaced across an entire board to produce an even spread of light and spectrum. The interlace also gives even white and even actinic spread. AI follows the use of 3w LEDs with focal lenses to amplify the par output. Whereas the par may be stronger directly under the "spotlight" beam, there is radical dropoff as you get away from the focal point. This is why AI appears to be less expensive but as your tank size gets bigger, the amount of units multiply. A 6' tank can effectively use 3 - 4 Pacsun units while AI recommends 6 units.

This is gonna be a debatable topic for a long time whether low watt even spread or high power spotlight is better. I personally think that even spread is the better option. When your unit is already outputting more than sufficient Par, why sacrifice spread coverage for mote focused power? Par overkill in my opinion.

The controller, though not yet compatible with 3rd party units, is much more advanced in the Pacsun unit. The options are also limitless being that it's PC interfaced via Bluetooth and the software is ever evolving.

Hope this answers questions. My fingers hurt from typing in this little pseudokeyboard. See you all Monday!

CONGRATULATIONS TO RAFAL FOR BECOMING A DADDY!!!

Let me preface with this...pics were taken with a digital elph...i have a sony dslr, but can't get great tank shots with my macro lens yet...obviously there are gonna be white balance issues, but it is what it is!
Ok here we go... this is how I have it set up on top of my Biocube 29 (shout out to my homeboy who made the custom top for the tank:
