Rich, your speed is very fast.

If you think your computer is slow, check the computer itself first. The next thing to think about is getting a wireless access point that is set up for N ONLY, no ABG, just N. That will give you the fastest speed. Do not use G/N as it slows down to G speeds.

Thanks Josh. Do you think one of these cheap upgrade devices will work?

No, I wouldn't buy that.

What wireless router are you using at the moment. The one that the cable companies provide is crap. You should have your own.

Also, you want to make sure you pick a channel that no one else in your neighborhood is using. It is getting hard to find open channels these days but look to switch to something other than 1,6,13 as that is the default for a lot of devices.

You should also make sure your wireless router is not close to the microwave, and eliminate any 2.4ghz wireless phones in your home if possible.

The best speed bump I have noticed with home wireless comes from getting a dual radio access point (like the Apple Airport Extreme) where you can run both 2.4ghz and 5ghz for N. Making sure you are running pure N and not B/G/N is a big deal as any B or G devices will slow the entire network down to 11Mb.

I am using the cheap one that version installed. You are the 3rd person that told me to get the airport extreme. I'll go that route. I can't seem to go wrong purchasing any Apple product these days. Thanks for the advice.

Big improvement Josh. I just installed the Airport Extreme. Speeds just about as fast as being wired. Thanks for the recommendation.
