I would love to pick up and move to Hershey, PA. Even though they get snow and cold and etc I wouldn't care because it's not NY.

I hear ya!!!I ended up in Aiken, SC.
But my story is a little different, I did not have a choice.. But believe you me, I wanted to leave BAD!

Well, its comforting to know I'm not alone in my desire to leave the city. My fears are that having lived in a big city so long I would be uncomfortable living some place else. It is not as much a cost of living issue but more of a quality of life issue that I find myself thinking of the most and its impact on my 2yo and 5yo boys.
That's why I raised my kids an hour north of the city. I still get the benefits of NYC with a lot more comfort, safety and quality of life IMO. FYI, we not only get loads of dead smelly skunks on the roads around here, but we get them live tooWe've also got fox, coyote, black bear, turkey, deer, rattle snakes, and a whole host of other game I'm forgetting about......only one hour north of NYC.

Funny, I grew up on LI, went to college in rural upstate, lived in Hawaii and California and traveled most of the country. There is no where I would rather raise my kid or live than Brooklyn where I live now. The culture , the art, the food , the exposure to other cultures and the community is unrivaled IME. Admittedly, I have a relatively cushy NYC academic life, but if its up to me, I ain't goin' nowhere.
BTW, Deers ate all the flowers my wife planted in the front yard, back yard, side yard... I need a gun now.
