All of this stems from being a nomadic creature. we don't want to live here, but we sure as heck don't want to live there neither. so where ever we are, we'd rather be some place else. Thats why we take vacations.

I for one would love to go out to hawaii.

Moved to Florida about 1 1/2 yrs ago. For the first few weeks I hated it down here and thought I had made a mistake. Never thought I'd have missed the MTA. Ask me now and I'll tell you why didn't I think of this earlier. Like anything else it takes some time to adjust. I guess were are all sometimes fearful of the unknown, but how do you know if the grass is greener on the other side if you don't give it a chance? You'll be surprised at how many people down here are originally from NY.

From housing to car insurance, things are relatively cheaper. You get a more bang for your buck as far as housing down here. When I last visited NY I looked around and thought to myself, I lived here? Everything was so cramped and congested and the houses were cooled with window A/C units. The native Floridians get a kick out of hearing that down here.

Anyway, just my 2 cents.

it's clean, quiet, almost no crime.
I think I am going to go there and steal something :tongue1:
I think about leaving all the time and would really like to live at the end, the far east end of LI on the North Shore. I am there all the time.
The problem is that, one, we have too many close friends from many years back and two I was stationed in quite a few states and although I like places like Colorado I just can't get used to first of all not having an ocean and second I need a lot of places to go and do things. Mostly water things, and I do like the fact that there are probably 15 LFSs within five miles from my house, probably double that many hardware stores and I could eat in a different restaurant every day and not hit the same one twice within a few miles.
I love Hawaii but my old girlfriend lives there and she gets bored because on her day off, where can she go? To the same beach all the time?
Her vacations take her here.
I really hate Manhattan after working there for 40 years I never want to see it again but I like being able to have everything at my fingertips.

I love the City, grew up in it, there is nothing that can be compared to New York City but it is too expensive no matter how much you make. As the salary is increased yur way of living is also increased. There is plenty of life outside of New York City but you should not compare your new place to the City. Taxes are always lower or you dont pay for something (like school, security, insurance, etc...). I moved out several years ago and still would like to return. If I can recommend one thing is that before you move, MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS WORK, not just one opening but several.

leave NY yes

Surfside, south carolina in 7 yrs. once I hit 62 social security papers are in no matter what my wife says. I cannot retire in NY especially westchester county where we have the highest property taxes & highest utility rates. I will no longer need the schools. My daughter has 2 more yrs of undergrad studies. My wife can get an apartment in NYC & I will will be surf fishing & hanging at the beach with my son. I cannot wait.
P.S. 3 rd row beach house (sand for backyard priceless) around $300,000.
taxes $50 a month, I currently pay $50 a day. no brainer.
