NAUI certified last spring, I've only done 3 other dives outside of cert dives and all were in the waters of Maine. I don't have any gear (other than mask) and probably wont buy any anytime soon (unless I became wealthy) but would love to dive again.

I'm trying to get sponsored for a program in the Bahamas or Thailand reef area, if I go it'd be some time this summer either snorkling or snork/dive which is the better place to go? I think Thailand because it's a culture I know nothing about (yet) farther, and harder to get to if I had to pave my own way (I mean if I get full sponsorship I should take the better complete package right?)

Diving since 1971. Started in Australia while on R&R.
Since then I dove in most of the Caribbean, three Hawaiian Islands, the Mediteranian, Bahamas, Florida and three Tahitian Islands.
The vast majority of my diving has been in NY off of my boat. I had a sea urchin collection business but for pleasure I usually went for wrecks which we have over 200 and lobsters.
Nothing beats Bora Bora. I am very spoiled since diving there. I am going to the Caribbean shortly but not looking forward to diving. There is no comparism.

My wife and daughter are also certified.

It is much different diving. The visability is measured in inches. In the western Long Island where I do most of my diving the vis approaches 2'. It gets up to 4' sometimes and is better at night. There is no swimming involved as you just pull yourself over the rocks. If you get off the rocks, you can't see anything. You don't need to see far for lobsters you just look for their antenna sticking out of the rock.
It is not for novice divers, you need to be able to do everything without seeing and not panic if you get caught in a cable or fishing line.

It is not your normal diving. The visability in the western Sound where I do most of my diving is measured in inches. It averages 2' and goes up to about 5'. Night is better. There is no swimming involved just pull yourself over the rocks looking for lobster antenna under the rocks. It is not for novice divers as it is cold and you need to be able to do everything without looking. You also need to not panic if you get caught in a cable or fishing line.
If you come up here maybe I can take you.

Dive for so many years, military and civilian! Trying to get recertified before the summer and by new equipment. Dive in the Mediterranean, but mostly in California. Starting to buy new scuba gear.

Talk to SI REEF, he does frequent diving and locally.

Two questions....

Has anyone dove off Long Island in August to see Paradise Found? Are we allowed to try to and net fish during this time? I think that would be an amazing experience for the MR dive crew.

Also, does anyone have details on the dive expo this weekend?

Thanks!

Here is the Web site to the expo its not this weekend its the next. This weekend is easter i believe
