Everyone has valid points but in the end it's the owner's responsibility.
I feel that the punishment is not strong enough on the humans. If your dog attacks someone because of your negligence you should spend more than a few months in jail or just a fine.
I had a pit that died of old age a few years ago. He was the sweetest dog ever, he was properly trained and he was never allowed to think the he was the boss. I would tell that dog to sit and stay and he would stay there until he was told to move.
My 5 lb Pom use to bite the crap out of him while they played and the pit never got aggressive toward the Pom or other dogs.
I have seen my share of mean pit, boxers, German shepards...etc
One of my friend owned the meanest Chihuahua that I have ever seen, granted he would never be able to do the damage a pit bull or other large breeds could do, but he was still mean as he could be.
No offense but I would walk across the street if I saw you with your dog or any other dog breed, I don't care if you say that he is the sweetest dog in the world, an animal is an animal and you can't tell how they are going to react.
So pit owners don't be offended if people cross the street when you are walking by or if they have a prejudice toward pits. Pits have a bad rep that was given by bad owners, and unfortunately they are going to have to live with it until they proof otherwise. That's not going to change until the owners are educated and punished severely if they use any animal for fighting purpose.
Can't force everyone to like them...Let's face it we all can't have the same opinion.
