Everyone has valid points but in the end it's the owner's responsibility.
I feel that the punishment is not strong enough on the humans. If your dog attacks someone because of your negligence you should spend more than a few months in jail or just a fine.
I had a pit that died of old age a few years ago. He was the sweetest dog ever, he was properly trained and he was never allowed to think the he was the boss. I would tell that dog to sit and stay and he would stay there until he was told to move.
My 5 lb Pom use to bite the crap out of him while they played and the pit never got aggressive toward the Pom or other dogs.
I have seen my share of mean pit, boxers, German shepards...etc
One of my friend owned the meanest Chihuahua that I have ever seen, granted he would never be able to do the damage a pit bull or other large breeds could do, but he was still mean as he could be.
No offense but I would walk across the street if I saw you with your dog or any other dog breed, I don't care if you say that he is the sweetest dog in the world, an animal is an animal and you can't tell how they are going to react.
So pit owners don't be offended if people cross the street when you are walking by or if they have a prejudice toward pits. Pits have a bad rep that was given by bad owners, and unfortunately they are going to have to live with it until they proof otherwise. That's not going to change until the owners are educated and punished severely if they use any animal for fighting purpose.
Can't force everyone to like them...Let's face it we all can't have the same opinion.

Remember kids, this is an open forum. In so, it is open to debate and opinion.

That is true tripstank, and this is a free country. And we the people supposedly make the laws. Therefor I only ask that people leave my dogs alone, and stop trying to get them killed. They are not bothering anyone. I don't allow them, nor have I trained them to do so. For heavens sakes I don't even allow them to run around in our yard barking, and this I've done long before they brought in this new law that dogs cannot bark for more then 5 min. straight.
Guess now I have to teach my dogs how to tell when they're 5 minutes of barking is up.LOL:teeth:

Everyone is entitled to their opinions. Some and sometimes a lot might not like what you say. But if you are a strong person it doesn't really bother you cause you know what you know and you just let it go. Whereas some people will try to do whatever to make their opinions heard and even take some action of some sort. I had a member pm me that all pitbulls should be drowned like some aggressive fish that she/he supposely drowns when they do not "work" in her/his tank. I just told that person my opinion and went on just being ignorant will not help. Everyone that is still against pitbulls then just be that way this thread was intended to put some knowledge but some people just have their minds set to one thing and one thing only. Ok since I offically started this thread can Mods please close this thread. Thank you and happy reefkeeping and happy dog walking. And Ronen happy parrot cleaning up. (damn that bird makes a mess) :lol2: :hugs:

Whoa that is a little out of control. Destroying an animal for no reason is out of control. However, in self defense. Different story.

Oh man that was hot.

Seriously though these dogs were bred to fight bulls to the death and they usually won. I don't know how many of you have been close enough to a bull to touch it and flick it on the nose but it's something you don't forget. Now I don't know of a human on the planet that could take out a bull with their barehands much less something so much smaller than us.

As JHOv mentioned they aren't all killers but they posses the ability to do so. Your pit may never harm a stuffed animal but it has the capacity to kill a one ton animal of pure muscle. That should be respected.

On another note this thread is exactly the same as the Lions & Tigers and Bears forums in the midwest. For those of you that don't know there are more tigers in the midwest US (kept as pets) than in the wild. Let me say that again, There are more tigers kept in the US as pets than exist in the wild. The owners of these animals show pics of the tigers with their kids and explain how nice they are and it's true. The pictures are there to prove it but they are still one ton killing machines. Disaster always strikes when Daryl and his other brother Daryl forget that "kitty" is a one ton killing machine and start thinking of her as a house pet.

That being said I love pits. I think they rock and it's a shame that people in the ghetto need to keep one like it's a f*cking man purse because it gives them a bad name and it gives a "ghetto" connotation to the breed. I wouldn't keep one in a home with a family though, just my feeling. I haven't kept them long enough to feel comfortable with that. I would opt for a more family type dog like a German Shepard. Which are also known to tear the throat out of a would be attacker :)

Bigup yourself!

JHOV, you are sick.lol

fritz, I've heard of German shepherds also going bad! Matter of fact it was the Dobie & german sheperd that were first inline for what the pit is now facing.
As per the vet @ CACC told me the Akita, a Japanese breed bred to kill bears are 100 times worse then the pit bull. I should know I've owned both. The Akita I had to have him put to sleep. He would attack for no reason what so ever. He was not the cause of inbreeding, abuse, or training for fights or protection. He was born in my home, I raised him and cared for him from the minute he was born.
My 3 pits have never even attempted to attack anyone or any of my 2 cats. The blue nose though is on her way out. She is not being very nice to the male which out weighs her by about 45 lbs.
What I am saying is that if you are going to own any dog you have to be aware of their individual personalities, and act accordingly. You just can't generalize. Animals like humans are all different.
Now, on another note any dog trainers that know this breed please contact me please.

A Vet told me
"Akitas are Satan incarnate."
This was just after he decapitated the dog so it's head could be sent to a lab and tested for rabbies. He said the problem with them is they will NOT be any lower in pack order than Beta. That causes problems in family situations.

Generalizing of course.
