For the people that are afraid of any dogs. They need to watch the dog whisperer mY man Cesar has a pack of dogs. Which mostly consist of pits, shepards, and akitas. And they show true respect for people and other dogs. Most of them were used for fights and they still won't attack the new dogs that come in and think they are all bad. The problem is people don't let their animals socialize which is a major component for any animals mental. When socializing is lacked animals think they are the boss period. It comes down to the owner. This is why I don't like thread like this. What if I told you there was something wrong with you what would you think?

I have 2 pits, Shiba Inu(mini akita) and a Beagle . I love pits!! I've loved them from the first episode of The little rascals. Petey was a pitbull. They pulled his tail, beat him over the head with a hammer and various other things, he never bit anyone. I truly believe its the owner. Ive seen guys have a pit on a leash and and aggravate them to bite towels or whatever they have. Then they praise the dog for biting. They do what they are taught to do. My dogs have never bit anybody. They were rescues and have horror stories before I adopted them. I have never taught my dogs to attack, I believe that dogs have a six sense. When somebody comes to the door or in my house and my dogs stay away from them and are on alert it makes me worry! 99% of the time, in my case, they were right. There were a couple of people mugged in my area. Around that time wife was walking my pit at around 10pm and she thought she saw a guy lying behind a car. She thought it was weird, but hey we live in Brooklyn so she kept it moving. As she was walking home, my pit BOSSED UP and shot behind her and there was a guy standing there lookin nervous, my pit wouldnt let her move or him walk forward, he was just growling. The guy didnt say anything, HE JUST TURNED AND RAN. THANK GOD!! I really think when its time to act they will. I love my reef tank, but I LOVE my dogs. They give the love back. Youre never alone!

HATE THE DEED NOT THE BREED!
Words to live by!

Don't be offended If I don't give your dog the benefit of the doubt and walk around the perimeter of the leash.
Wes that is a right thing to do
One observation i made after i move to America.... DOGS ARE SWEET....
i came from russia. in russia there is a cult of a strong breeds . There is no way anybody will come to pet any dog he/she dont know... first thing kids learn - do not touch strangers dog.. if you see a dog unleashed - you must watch and make sure dog is on the safe distance . in rassia a common rule is to train the dog that any stanger will get bitten if he get too close
it was a revelation to me that in america you can pet any pooch and he will love it
and guess what... i got bitten in Queens by JAck russel... and got yelled on in russian '' dont touch the @!#$%@# dog you idiot*(&%*^ !!!!!! "

:lol2:grisha, man I love the ending to your post.:lol2: I'm not laughing that you bit, that part I am sorry for you! But the fact that you got bit by one of the smaller terriers, and on top of that you got yelled at in your native tongue. Well, it is just to funny.
And by the way, I am not russian, and I taught all my children never to touch any animal without getting the owner's permission firts. And even then, only with caution. Simply because you never know what mood the animal is in. And when I see a stray dog, again I watch the animal, and keep my distance. It is just common sense. Oh, but wait. That is one of the big problems in this world today. People lack common sense.:teeth:

I love my Pities. Even my little annoying Blue Nose girl.

Rockman, why did you tell your landlord the dog was a pit? You might have been able to get away with just telling him the dog was a mutt.:flower:
Heck, the Animal Control Center in Brooklyn calls almost all their dogs "Pit Bulls". By the way I was there one day when they had an OBVISIOUS wolf hybrid, and they classified it as a German Shepeard. I would have adopted him except that I already had my pits, and don't have the room for another large dog.

Was the child runnin around with no CLOTHS? If the child had cloths were they ripped off? What I think JP, is going on, is someone raped the child and is blaming it on the dog! I've had dogs all my life and yea when theyre young they hump a leg, but to hold down a screaming child, remove cloths and get busy is far fetched. IMO of course.

My wife was mauled by a pack of pits. She had about 50 staples, the majority of which were in her head. Pits are dangerous animals and often mistreated and inbreed. IMO I think the whole should be wiped out.

I'm all for wipin out breeds!
While we're at it, lets wipe out poisonous snakes, sharks, spiders, zoas(A guy died a couple of months ago from zoas).
C'mon guys HUMANS kill alot more than dogs will, ever!! Ive been bit, so what! Ive been in fights where a guy bit me in the calf yes in the calf!! Ive been stabbed by a human, in the hand and in the quad, which was a hundred times worse, than any dog bite! I've had all kinds of dogs, pits just have stronger jaws! My beagle and my cocker spaniel were alot meaner than my pits!! Judge animals on a single animals basis, you cant pigeon hole a whole race and you cant do that to animals either cause they all have different personalities!!

Trip, Thank God your wife made it and is ok!! Sorry to hear that happend to her and your dog. Too bad the people who owned them werent held responsible.

"Are pits intimidating"
Hell Yeah they're intimidating! Some are. Some people find some of my friends that fight in the UFC and PRIDE, intimading as well!! I have a friend whos a pro body builder, 295 pounds at 10% body fat and when he walks on the side walk women pull their kids close like he's gonns eat them or something!!LOL
Itimidation depends on what people percieve as "Intimidating". Alot of the guys that fight are down to earth nice guys , it all depends on the person, same goes to dogs. My wife is a trainer/walker she walks a lazy, huge, mastiff that wouldnt hurt a fly, and people clear the way like a lion is comin. Once again it all depends what intimidates you.

Hey Jp when a burglar breaks into your house and you dont have a gun You'll wish you had a dog, not a pit, any dog!! For now just throw your lionfish at him! LOL Just playn JP.:sgrin:

pits

trips sorry to here about your wife, but if she had been attacked by a group of poodle's would you want to wipe them out also ? ive had pit's since i was 14 yr's old and never had one turn on me or bite anyone. including my niece and nephew that use to try and ride them. or my cat that slept in the dog bed with my American Staffordshire terrier. i had a staff that was proffesionally trained which i was told couldn't be done and the trainer didn't want to do { given their history } but it was trained for basic, advanced and personal and home protection on voice comand. i will say this, it is not the dog you want to attack you out of all breed's cause of the lock jaw and their jaw pressure, but if you look up what are the top 10 dog's reported for dog bite's a pit isn't in there. all them ankle biter's are. to me doberman's are the worst dog's. sneaky little sh%t's. dog's that are mis-treated are more than likely gonna turn or flip on you

Unfortunately in my case, the owner was only sentenced for a very short time. He is lucky we moved before I could take of the matter personally.

I am sure ankle biters may bite "more often", however, not with the same intensity. As in, a ankle biter may draw blood, but not half my wife's head.

I am sure I can take a 10lb poodle, but not a 80+lb pit.

You all can have your neurologically f++ked up dogs, but I will tell you one thing, should one come near my family again, the dog and the owner will suffer the same pain my wife and dog did.

You guys are not seeing the Point. Dogs are freakin dogs they bite sometimes. Sorry to hear that trips how did that occur? Pits are not the only dogs that attack people. If a rot bit your wife would you just dislike rots. Also poodles are not ankle biters, they can do damage because they have teeth. Trips it bothers me when people say the things you said. i know your wife could have been hurt bad but two wrongs dont make a right ever. People that own dogs need to be responsible. Im sorry for your wife thank god shes ok. Saying what you said makes me worry im gonna Walk my dog near the wrong person and get shot.

pit bull's

well now this thread is going to take a turn. once again trips sorry for your wife and what happened, but your anger should be if any directed at the owner. a dog is a pet and is only what you turn it into. same with fish. as many people that fight dog's and miss treat them i feel it's a sickness, i lived in a neighborhood with alot of pit's and rot's, and people have a fear of what they don't know. don't know if you ever owned a pit. but it's a responsibility of a buyer to check parent's and background of pup. especially with this type of dog. it's truelly a special breed. i feel most pit owner's will always argue this topic. and those that never owned them or got a bad pup will argue a differant story. but like i said truelly sorry to here what happened. and hope all is well.
