From what i seen in my life time plus i had one there is something wrong with these dogs they tend to go crazy i got snaped by my own dog plus friends dogs and seen my friends and my dog go crazy to snap at kids.

And these dogs were rased from pups and never put to fight .

Nice dog but not around kids.

thanks for the videos. I love pitbulls, actually I love any kinds of dogs. I blame more on the owner if the dog attacks any human. Doesn't matter what size of the dog, you really need to train them well.

been an owner of American Staffordshire terrier for 12 years, I have to agree with everything in both videos. The dog i grew up with by training him for a championships and medals died in 2004. i have to say that in this best 12 years i always had to remember what kind of animal im dealing with . Strong, proud, independent character --that is not a beginner dog

Well I for one love the breed and have a red nose my self. Now I do some what agree with you guys saying the dogs being around child and i am coutious with her around the kids. However my 1yr old has bitten her on her ear and all over and the worst she has done is yelpt. Granted there are some horror stories but I believe that anything can happen with any dog...

I am not afraid of them, what I am afraid of (with any animal) is how the owner has trained that animal.

I don't agree with any. Its always the owner. My pit will protect children. My pit gets along with ferrets which terriers are bred to hunt. Always you don't always here the real story. For all we know the child could have hit, pinch, or teased the dog. Usually any dog is prone to bite. Duh! Its a dog its what they do. I partially agree with crox as no dog should be left unattended with any dog not just pitbulls. I'm not hearing this crap as there is nothing wrong with them. It has been proven dogs are not born to be crazy, they are usually always pushed to the limits by their owners. And most dog attacks are labeled as a pitbull attack when the majority of attacks are from rots, dobermans, and such because people want those type of dogs to protect their homes but they fail to properly train their dogs. I'm sorry but I'm a proud owner of one that has not viciously bit anyone yet. Sorry guys but stop bashing the breed here this is a place for reefs and happy things not dog attacks please. This should be a thread the mods should close.

DONT BLAME THE BREED, BLAME THE DEED.

lol NRA. I'll never forget a story my dad told me about one of his patients. This woman had one of those little lap dogs for 15 yrs (like a shitzu or something). She would feed it breakfast every morning and then play with it on the kitchen counter for a few minutes before going to work. One morning after 15 yrs with this dog she leaned down to kiss it as usual and this dog ripped through her upper lip and into her gums severing the entire left side of her upper lip and a chunk of her lower lip. She had to go to one of my dad's friends to have her face put back together. So it doesn't matter what dog you have they are still animals and it is naive to think you know them 100%.

This tread wasn't intended on bashing Pitbull or American Staffs. This thread was for a reason that most people are so ignorant and as soon as they see me walking down the street with my dog they automatically run across the street and panic. For what? And then there are those people that ask me if their child can pet my dog. Ofcourse you can. Its very friendly. Like someone mentioned its not the breed its obviously the owner indeed. I dont know what the name of the reality show was but there was one where this master trainer would go to someones home to train bad dogs. And what was wrong with this picture. Obviously the owner. I remember once the had a chichuaua and it bit the mailman twice and the next door owner had 3 pits that never bothered him. Whats wrong with this picture? The owner not the dog.

I agree that anyone should ask the animals owner before they touch or pet the animal out of respect and courtesy. And just in case that animal may bite. But like I said, any animal has potential it all depends on the owner and quite frankly it also depends on the individual animal as well. Easch has their own personality.

What is wrong with this picture? PREJUDICE!!!!!!!!!!!
Warning: I may ramble, but this subject is really getting on my nerves. Plus, my husband says I've been angry lately.:letitallo
I've owned wolf hybrids, Labradors, Akitas, rotties, and now Pities.
My hybrid hated police, why I do not know. When I got him he was 6 months old, who knows what he had been through. He died of old age(blind, deaf unable to control his bodily functions). Best family dog in the world. He did attack a child once, the child ran up behind him in an enclosed area surprising him, with my hubby being the person in charge. Gave the dog to much leach in a public place. I blamed my husband, and the child. My husband for being careless, the child for surprising the dog.
PLEASE DO NOT get this wrong, I am not saying the child got what he deserved. What I am saying is that the animal being an animal simply did what came natural to an animal. This was a one time incident. My husband did learn to have better control of any dog he had in his custody while around strangers. This is the same dog that loved and cared for 3 of my children. You couldn't go near any of my kids without him giving you this look of "I'm watching you, so watch your step"...
My other dogs all met the same end. Death by old age, except for the akita. He had to be put down because he was vicious for no known reason. He was born in our home, cared for by me. Never abused, babied, and loved. He attacked every single member of the family (unsuccessfully, thank God) including me. Vet at the animal control care facility told me "pit bulls, Dobermans, rotties so on get the bad wrap, but the Akita breed is the worse in the world". Yet I know there are people out there with this breed with no problems.
One of my rotties was a weirdo, I wouldn't trust him around anyone or anything. I believe there was something mentally wrong with him. He was raised the exact same way as the other one(they were raised together) which I knew would not hurt a fly.
The Labrador would start fights, then run and hide behind the hybrid leaving him to settle all scores.lol
My current dogs, 3 pit bulls. Large red nose male, small blue nose female(not altered yet), and last but not least small white w/brindle female. All have wonderful personalities, but I have my own worries about the blue nose's personality. The other two, are fine when strangers come around the blue puts on a nasty little show.(This is being addressed, with my illness I have not been able to take them out to socialize, my son has finally decided that he will be taking them out for me). The other two I believe I could trust to be alone with my granddaughters, but I wouldn't do that. I would never leave a child unattended with any dog, or cat for that matter.
People need to grow up, and stop blaming animals for doing what comes natural to them. Humans need to take responsibility for the actions of the animals in their care.
We are supposedly superior to animals. I say supposedly because in my years I have found that I could trust animals more then I could trust humans.
OK, now bring on the bashing of AwiBrandy.

Two different sites
www.cdc.gov/ncipc/duip/dogbreeds.pdf
www.fataldogattacks.com
two different sets of opinions.

Dogs have different variables that will deteremine their character.
1.Their breed is one but it could (not always) be corrected by the owner. The mastif was originally a war dog but none seen in current wars so the breed is now one of the nicest.
2.It's history as a puppy, these years are the most important years of a dog if it is scared by humans as happens in some kennels then you know.
3.It's current owner and the way he/she is caring for him.
4.Purebred or crossbred. Purebred retain all or most of their character that is why most hounds are good sniffers, and most bulls are good farm animals. But when you cross the breed the dog for whatever reason loses it's general character and most flaws in the purebreed. Pinschers are known to have a numerous amount of ailments in their later years because the purebreed has a flaw were the brain is crushed in the head skeleton. But take a crossbred pinscher and the problem is not likely.
All that being said my favorite dog is a Rottweiler never seen such a graceful dog but it is also seen as a aggresive dog like the pit. There are problems with people taking these dogs and training them to fight and when it does have puppies that character is then transfered. The cheap kennels are overbreeding them and treating them poorly because of the high demand for them and all of these things contribute to the Dog.
I see what marki24 is trying to say they are getting bad press that is true. It was like all the shark attacks they were reporting 2 years ago but if you looked at the numbers the shark attacks were the same then as they were any other year and let's look at population that is also rising so why shouldn't the numbers of attacks go up as well..NUff Said.

i agree that how they are raised has something to do with pitbull behavior. But c'mon people, you can't deny the fact that pits need to be treated with a certain amount of fear and respect. If i walk by you and your pit on the street, how am I supposed to know if your dog is a sweet cuddle bug or a highly trained killing machine? Don't be offended If I don't give your dog the benefit of the doubt and walk around the perimeter of the leash. Howeverr, I think dog attacks in general (no matter what breed), wouldn't be an issue if owners were more responsible.

For example, I own 2 Jack Russells who love people but hate other dogs. I know my dogs well enough to cross the street when I see another Dog and his/her owner in our path.

Cause he has teeth!

Wes, Jack Russell's & Pits are related, and that is a trait they share. Apparently all terriers dislike other dogs tremendously.
I give all dogs respect. Any dog can bite. So can cats. As a matter of fact I had one cat that didn't mind being petted, but when it had its fill and was not left alone he would bite.
Being respectful of animals is one thing. But the media has created a phobic atmosphere towards the pit bulls. Just as they did with the Dobermans back in the 60's & 70's. With the Dobie's the word was that they would turn on their masters at some point, oh yes and the same goes for the Rotties.
Lack of knowledge creates fears, and prejudice.
If people took the time and energy to learn more about the Pit Bulls they would know the mush these dogs truly are.
By the way, the Akita is a breed that was bred to hunt bears. These dogs are fierce! And yet you don't hear of the things they do all over the media. Wonder way? Could it be that the dugs have not decided to use them for their advantage, and therefore they are owned by more respectful & responcible people.

never had a bad experiance with pitts but they look so scary.I do agree its the owner who makes the dog what it is.

I had a pit for 3 weeks till my landlord at the time flipped his lid when he found out.he said any other dog but a pitt.

I wish they would make a law that would make these people who cant train there dogs right responsable for anything there dog dose...

Dog kills a kid for no reason ,,life in prison!!!!!!!
