Mods need to be rotated in and out on a consistent basis. And like it or not some unfortunately take it to whatever level they see fit to choose. One glaring issue on MR is the grouping together of individuals by some of the mods and than those groups being moderated differently than others or individuals.
As far as being a thankless job I'm sorry no sympathy. I was a moderator on an astronomy site for several years. I took on the responsibility because I wanted to. The mods on MR were asked at some point and accepted that choice knowing what was involved.
The biggest issue on MR that I have seen as of late and have actually been a part of is a specialized treatment. Certain individuals and groups are moderated differently than other members of the site correct moderation requires that every individual be treated the same regardless of one moderator or another's opinion of that individual or group. The other issue that comes up is the fact of vendors being administrators on this site. To me that is a blatant conflict of interest. Unfortunately in the end we don't own the site someone else does and as they say it's their playground they make the rules and if we don't like those rules we can play elsewhere that is partially the reason my time on MR has not been as much as I used to spend on here lately. Unfortunately dubs you beating your head against AWOL things are not going change around here unless those that own run and moderate the site start to realize exactly what is going on or us as members decide that MR is not the place for us. I'm honestly quite surprised your initial post has lasted as long as it has and I would not be the least bit surprised if it's deleted or at least my post is. Good luck hope it all works out

Mods work hard and get no pay or thanks. Mods have a life outside of here, you never know what may be going on in the personal life.
When you start paying a membership fee then you can ask to vote for mods, etc, until then you have 2 options: stay on the forum or leave it.
Dubs: try reaching out to them, you never know what may come of a friendly gesture.

Honestly it sounds like all it would take is an explanation for what is being deleted, I think if repeated deletes are happening, it would be in the mods, OP, and MRs best interest to provide and explanation rather than perpetuating all of this drama. Give these guys what they are asking for and tell them what rules the issue was?

Actually this is a privately owned form but the forum itself is of the public domain. That does not give us the right to do or say what we want and turn this place into the wild West but it also doesn't give the moderators the right to randomly pick and choose who what or how they moderate. Also if you're going to ask for support or donations which I've done since the day I joined I then feel that that makes me a partial owner or at least a partial supporter of the site which should allow me certain rights choices or votes as to what goes on on the site. I initially supported MR because I liked the way it was ran but things have changed lately and as such my support for MR has ceased.
In the end it is what it is and the site will be run the way the administrators and owners and moderators feel it needs to be. In the end you have a choice staying on MR and deal with the way things are run or go elsewhere. There are plenty of other very well-run informative sites. I figured I'd say that last line is that's what any of the mods are Admins are going to tell you.

The problem is there are no clear cut rules. We haven't broken any rules yet our posts get deleted. What we ask for is a message when your post gets deleted as to what infraction was committed. That is certainly not too much to ask for.

Sitting in front of a computer editing reading and deleting threads is really not that hard of a job. As I said in my last post I did it for several years. Yes it does take some time but that's a choice that they chose to accept. They knew they weren't getting paid and they knew the amount of work that was involved
As far as being a supporter I am. I paid my membership and have since I joined and yet I and "members/friends of mine are "grouped" together, A group nicknamed by a Mod on MR are singled out and overly moderated constantly.
And almost every time this is done without explanation or a valid reason.
Some of the mods on MR are of the highest caliber I've seen on any of the forums I belong to. But unfortunately there are also some that should've been shown the door to the job months ago.
Kathy C waaahh thread .. we posted there about our issue and the thread was closed with the reason that we need to read what the purpose of that thread is.
The thread we posted about our issue on a general thread was deleted. A total of 3 different threads were deleted. No message or reason as to what was wrong with the post.

I wouldnt mind paying a members fee. Ive donated to the site before, it wouldnt be an issue as long as I get some rights.
