So about a month and a half ago I got a speeding ticket on the RFk (triboro) bridge. He pulled me over and tells me license and registration. I pull out my license and the cop says nevermind just sit tight. Takes my license comes back about 5-7 mins later with a ticket and says
"I got you doing 76, the bridge is a 40" you have to show up in court, have a good night" and walks away.

There was no way I was doing 76 because i was moving at the flow of traffic. Upon looking at my ticket under "occurence" it says s/b on the throgs neck brg. then it was crossed out and he wrote RFK on top of it. Leading me to believe this ticket was either written prior to and he needed to put someone on it. Long story short my court date was set to april 30th.

What do I do?
Worst case scenario: I get 8pts on my license, possible suspension and a huge insurance premium increase (I'm 21 and everything is in my name)

any help or advice would be appreciated

You could get a lawyer, which would cost you about $150-$200. There is a good chance the lawyer will get it reduce or the case thrown out. The worst case is they extend the case quite some time, sometime up to a year or more, and the case is then reduced. Considering your situation, age being 21, it would probably be worth it for you to do, even with the price being $150-$200.

Happened to me doing over 100 i was freaking out. Paid a lawyer 150 and he kept putting the day off and putting it off till it got dismissed. The lawyers are usually around on court day so when your time comes to go to court find one of the lawyers there cause 9 times out of 10 they know the drill and know the judges thats your best bet. Oh and was the car that stopped you outfitted with speeding radar? If not it'll be an easy win to question how he knew how fast u were going.

You will not loose your license. I had last year 34 over the limit, which is 8 points. I got a lawyer and was reduced to 2 points and no moving violation. Insurance did not go up. Did my 6 hour defensive driving course a month later which can reduce up to 4 points on your license for the last 18 months. My license is now clean. I spent 350 on the lawyer which was well worth it. Could not buy frags for a few months tho. LOL.

I would not hang your hat on a clerical error on the ticket. The cop will say he stopped you where you said you were and that will end that.

He didn't need the registration all information can be gotten from the license plate.

My advise would be to just goto court, they usually plea them down to less points. I am betting that you were doing over the speed limit so "a" ticket could have been issued.

You can hire an attorney, but you can also try it yourself and just not accept the plea of the prosecutor, and then get an attorney.

Let me give you one hint though, if there is any time to ki$$ some ass this is the time. I am not saying that you would be a tough guy, but going in and demanding anything is not the right answer.

So either just goto court and see if they will lower the points, or pay an attorney to do the exact same thing for you. All depends if you have $200 available to pay.

I would pay the 2-3 hundred bucks no prob. Ive had my license 2 yrs and got 2 tickets, both parking violations.
I will pay a lawyer hopefully it gets dismissed, or reduced to 2 pts.
But i spoke to a lawyer by my job and he said NYC doesnt do plea deals, its all or nothing.
If anyone knows a good lawyer, please let me know. ANY AND ALL HELP IS HIGHLY APPRECIATED

This is NYC traffic court, which works different than NJ or even LI. There isn't going to be a prosecutor to plea barging with it, just the judge and PO, which is why a lawyer is really the way to go.

Here is a lawyer I used in the past, they won 2 tickets for me but there isn't any guarantee.

And the car was not outfitted with radar it was an "MTA traffic and tolls" cop. It was an older model crown victoria, no radar equipment, just lights and siren

Not sure if there is on a NYC ticket to show how he got your speed.

And you really can't say that there was NONE, hard to see a hand held unit that is on the seat after he finished using it.

He may have also paced you.

Not really, if you take two points and use the time it takes for the car to move from the first to the second you can get a pretty accurate idea of the speed. Plus police are graded on an over/under scale so some can judge speed to within 5mph over/under and their score is documented just for cases like this. It can be used in court.

Yup police are trained to estimate speeds without radar so the lack of a unit doesn't mean anything.

Very true. I didn't want to bring it up. But you are right. When I was on the road over 5 years ago. I was able to be withing 1-2 mph as the radar. We are trained to decect speed on our own and only use the radar to confirm

in all honesty, you have two basic options from everything that i have read:

go to court and hope for the best or go to court with an attorney and hope for the best. i would take that information for the attorney that was posted and make a phone call. i doubt very much you are going to lose your license, but then again this is a NY court not a NJ where i have experience. I tell people all the time when i release them, an attorney can only help, he cant hurt...
