in all honesty, you have two basic options from everything that i have read:

go to court and hope for the best or go to court with an attorney and hope for the best. i would take that information for the attorney that was posted and make a phone call. i doubt very much you are going to lose your license, but then again this is a NY court not a NJ where i have experience. I tell people all the time when i release them, an attorney can only help, he cant hurt...
Lol you know that it is all not true!!! Some attorneys don't help just by merely walking in the door!!

Thirty6- How many lawyers do you know? lol

You definitely have to remember at least one lawyer being disemboweled by a judge for over stepping with all the time you've spent in court. I've even seen it. It's not pretty and you have to wonder if the client got a refund...

So well trained humans dont make mistakes? does a 6 spoke rim look the same as an 8 spoke rim spinning at 50mph? theres a huge margin for error

A lot of judges in NY do not care about the possibilities of errors as these are not criminal cases.

I have seen a lawyer(defending himself) got scolded by the judge that we should trust police's trained eyes even though the lawyer provided a data chart from the car manufacturer that his car cannot go from 0 to speeding within the stretch of a street cross.

Only a third party, who is not in your car, and happened to be there with a certified speed meter can prove your case. Who would have that? HAHA.

Most of the time, your lawyer is going to wait it out because the PD will not show up anyway(unless he is a highway patrol) or the judge will give you a deal right from the beginning. Many summons are for the sake of a quota, the PD has no intentions to press charges.

So GL.

+1 on this. Wait a week before your court date and tell them you need to reschedule. I think you have to go to Traffic Court in Jamaica, Queens. Check the ticket it should give you a website for more info. Try to delay as much as possible. This gives you a better chance of the officer not showing up. If he doesn't, the case should get thrown out. Did you not get an option to pay online, if not than the following might not apply to you. If you plead not guilty, not only will you have to pay the fines, you will also get slapped with court fees. If you plead guilty you could just play real nice with the judge and give him the whole schpeel that you are working student and this is your first moving violation and hope that the fines and penalties get reduced. Good Luck. I think you stated that the cop gave you no choice of making a plea in advance over the internet though. Bummer

NY traffic court must be insane compared to traffic court in NJ. were talking about a speeding ticket, not a criminal case. I have dealt with my fair share of attorneys, none of whom i would use if i were in trouble...

my point is simple, your going into court- clearly its an unknown element with lots of ins/outs and to be honest unfair loop holes for the average person: so if your looking to help yourself and your case, you should go armed with the person who can potentially provide you the best chance at success. going to court and saying the cop made a mistake on ticket isnt going to get you far at all, and the ability for a p/o to approximate a speed of vehicle was spoken about above and is 100% correct. I have seen an attorney get slapped around by a judge, not for moving violation though it was for a criminal case of much more seriousness, none the less it take the air right out of the room.

I would not hang your hat on a clerical error on the ticket. The cop will say he stopped you where you said you were and that will end that.

He didn't need the registration all information can be gotten from the license plate.

My advise would be to just goto court, they usually plea them down to less points. I am betting that you were doing over the speed limit so "a" ticket could have been issued.

From what I read about traffic law, in NYC you can not plea down a traffic ticket. I know this for a fact with moving violations. I was popped with a 'failure to signal' and went to court and they refused to reduce it. I looked it up on some web sites and it seems to be true.

In any case, you NEED to hire a lawyer. 8 points is a crap ton of cash and with the NYS divers abstract record fine is $300 and $75 per point over 6.

WORSE CASE, you're out $200 for a lawyer. Id do it.

Yea I only buy snails there. The last time I was there they were setting up a frag tank. I usually go to Kissena Aquarium. Great prices.

Sorry for hijacking the thread.
