Did you ever wonder why they put a date on your ticket? Because that cop is going to be in court all day. Ask for a continuance which the court will set a date. Most likely the officer will not show up and your attorney has a whole slew of options to fight the ticket.

Another option that works if your only interested in not getting the points is after you plead guilty and the points are assigned get a license from another state and turn in your NJ license. When the new state asks NJ for your points you wont have any and when the points from NY go to NJ it wont follow to your new state. (This one I did before and it works)

Good luck!

I might just change my license to PA. I have a friend down there and I can change one of my credit card bill to his place and get PA license. I don't know if I am breaking any law or since I change my legal address, maybe I have to pay tax in PA. But maybe I can change back to NJ after a year later. Gosh, this is driving me mad. Maybe I should change my insurance to PA as well, I know their insurance rate is much lower than NJ, maybe I can save tons of money.

Now you are spiralling into the shadows. Telling an insurance carrier that you live in PA when you do not, is fraudulent. Obtaining a PA license using a false address is also fraudulent. :theyareon

I wouldnt mess with the insurance. If you have an accident and your not covered by your insurance then its not really worth it. As far as the PA license goes I dont think thats fraud. You can live at a hotel for all they care what are the residency requirements for getting a license? Even illegal aliens can get a drivers license issued and not have to commit fraud.

Dide this is a 70 in a 55 and you're talking about commiting a felony. Plead not guilty, take a day and go to court, roll the dice.

Still want to know what that bad cop BS that spewed out of the other guys mouth that's the only reason I am monitoring this thread anymore. But hey maybe I'm just a good ole boy that's all.

Accurate link, Eric! However, there are no options for non-PA residents. If Savager claimed to be a resident of PA, but does not live there, that's fraud. The proof of residency requirements are on the page you linked.

A felony? By having a PA drivers license? You can stay at your friends house and be a new pennsylvania resident . There is no time limit on how long you need to live in the state to obtain the license! You can move tommorow and get a license the next day! Your only supposed to have a license from one state but nobody says you cant be a resident in two states. This isnt for paying taxes its for obtaining ID!

Im NOT advocating commiting any crime! If what I described is a crime then please ignore my post! Like Chief says I would fight your day in court and if that doesnt work out you can try other options.

Hits it's called insurance fraud. I know alot of people who do it, but what if he's the guy that gets caught for it? If he had a second residence there I'd say no problem he could push it but it doesn't sound like he does.

if these things are iffy, i would resist posting them on a public forum...
when the insurance company is looking for proof, you never know if google might point them this way....

Hey guys, don't worry I am not going to break the law again. This just a point and I'll pay for it. It's just an idea and I am just playing with it. Don't argue over this, it's all good. Thanks for your concern and I will let you know how it turns out later.

Please drive safely. And don't get too excited over getting new corals and drive fast like I did. LOL. After I got my ticket, I was still wanted to go home early to put my corals in my tank, that's crazy. This hobby is like crack addict, good thing DUI doesn't apply Drive Under Influence by getting new corals.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but does anyone know how long it takes for the points to clear from your records? I got a few speeding tickets spaced out by a couple of years.

NY DMV

Excerpt:
Points — Most traffic violations carry violation points. The points will be added to your record using the date the violation occurred, not the date you are found guilty. If your violation points in any 18-month period add up to 11 or more, your license may be revoked or suspended following a hearing.
The ALJ usually holds the point hearing immediately after you are found guilty of a violation that brings your total to 11 or more points in 18 months. On the following panel is a list of common violations and the number of points for each.
Taking a DMV-approved accident prevention course can reduce your point total by up to four points and reduce your auto liability and collision insurance premiums by 10% for three years. Ask for more information at any motor vehicle office.

Sorry, not looking to start a war but thats got to be the wort advice I've heard. PA and insurance companies doing business in PA take fraud seriously, very seriously :smash:

they tried to subpoena me, my memo book entries for a red lite summons I wrote 12 years ago to a driver with a Pa license. the NYPD informed them that I was retired, scary they found me and offered to pay for my testimony involving fraud. I declined.
1 of 2 options

1 pay the summons take a defensive driving course to rid the points
2 roll the dice plead not guilty

if you post pone the summons trust me the cop will show up
