I picked up few corals from Deep on Saturday and I took a belt Hwy toward 287. Right after the bridge, I got pulled over by hwy patrol. He gave me a ticket with 70 on 50 mile zone. Well, I was speeding but I didn't think I was speeding at 70, maybe 65 at max. Anyway, it's no point of arguing atm.

My question is, I have NJ license, do I get point for it even I got it on NY? I searched NJDMV site and they said it's 2 points but I am not 100% sure. Anyone know exactly how much points I will get for this ticket?

i have heard of some sort of glitch in the system that if you overpay the ticket and dont deposit the refund in your account, the file doesnt close out and your points dont transfer.

i dont know if this works or not, but i have heard of it.

for ex. if your ticket is $100, send in a check for $110. They will end up sending you back a check for the $10 you overpaid. When you get that check, rip it up and throw it out. Your file will not be closed out till they get the canceled check, so if you never deposit it, it never gets closed out (till i guess one day when they clean up their files).

This i think only works interstate as they send over the info to the DMV after the files close.

he he, good thing i put this disclaimer.
i have tried it once on a ticket i got in NJ, and the points never transfered over to my driving record - but as the site mentions, it could have just been a coincidence.

Tony there are points for all moving violations. Equipment violations are point free.

Tony, how much did you pay for the lawyer?

Chief, it doesn't matter. Tony is under 25 y/o. Reckless driving summons on ANYONE is mucho bad. Under 25 it's a death sentence for insurance premiums. So whatever the lawyer cost him was worth it. Even if he paid a grand for the lawyer.

Savager, I'd go to court (providing you were not rude and obnoxious to the officer) and try to plead it down. Most of the time they'll reduce the ticket one level. So instead of 20 over, you might get it down to 9 over the limit. Less points, less fine, less effect on insurance.

Actually russ it does. Reck Driving is a Criminal court summons that was probably ACD'd. Speeding and Starting Moving violations but when issued with a C summons must also be returnable to Criminal Court. $50 fine in NYC is nothing. If it were a Moving violation adjudicated in traffic court there would be a fine plus a surcharge so he got off easy.

There is no pleading down in NYC either it is an integrity thing and the cops aren't allowed to do that. If it's a highway cop you'll just piss him off if you try. They live at traffic court and are right on the money with their testimony. If you got one of us patrol cops you have a better chance but not highway pd they have to win in court or they lose their detail.

Oh I agree completely. That was my point. Even if the lawyer cost him a grand it was worth every penny to have all that reduced to a $50 fine.

I've been fortunate not to have gotten any tickets within the city limits, so I don't know the drill like I do up in my neck of the woods. I can only take your word for this one.

the lawyer was 200.00 thats all... he is a well known lawyer with the judges... i didnt even speak once... he did all the talking and at the end the judge told me 50.00 and i dont want to see u here again.. so i was like thank you your honor and went outside and did a little dance.. lmao....

ohhhh and also if the judge was a arse or i didnt have a lawyer they would of taken away my liscence for a year, up to 1 year in jail and up to 5000.00 fine just because of my stupidity...

I am not going to fight for it. I know in NJ you can go to the court and you can get your point reduce really easy. They even assign your court date on your ticket so I don't even have to put not guilty and you just go to the court and they reduce it for you if it your first offense.

Anyway, it's my fault and I didn't argue or rude to the police officer. He was on the corner and waiting for who's speeding. But I swear I wasn't speeding as fast as 70, I am kind of pissed off about that but I was probably drive close or little over 65 so it's still well over the speed limit.

I didn't tell my wife, she'll kill me for this. I am trying to get the defense drive course, hopely that will reduce little insurance cost.

Well, it sucks but what can I do. I was stupid enough to speed and now I have to pay for it. Guys, don't drive fast.

Sav was itin NY or NJ??

in NY. I picked up couple of frags from Deep and I took Belt HWY. I was planning to go to Flushing and take Whitestone bridge but I was little too excited and went wrong way. So I figured I will just take 287. And I got pulled over by police right before I enter 287 from Belt. I totally didn't realized that speed limit was only 50.
