Where are the pics :tongue1:
It's starting to skim a little but I have the water level set pretty high, high enough to make Herman's skimmer flood, and I am getting this very dry skimmate. It really hasen't pulled much since I got. Hopefully it will break in :fishhit: Damn NW skimmers:screama:

H&S In-Sump 150-F2001

Here is some pics and a vid of my skimmer. I got this skimmer about 2 weeks ago. The tank is a very lightly stocked 90 gallon, its only fish are 1 clown and 1 mandarin. I got this skimmer after doing tons of research. I think the skimmer decision can be one of the hardest decisions to make on a tank. There are other great skimmers out there, but this one fit my criteria. I decided on it because of its build quality, ease of use, ease of dialing in, excellent performance, quietness, and finally its energy efficiency. So far I have been very happy with the amount of skimmate it is pulling with only 2 fish. Can wait to stock up my tank again.

Got my remora on thursday and set it up today. What was the general break in time for everyone?

Also should I keep my prism as a spare or get rid of it? Don't look like it will loose it's prime unless the powerhead blows out. Got the MJ1200 on it as well how reliable is the pump? Should I keep an extra one JIC there is a problem? Just lookin fr some input.

HAVIC, nice foam in the pix. It would be inordinately more helpful if you could post what skimmer we're looking at. Thanks.

Brendan, 'grats on the new skimmer. I would ALWAYS recommend a spare pump jic. However, the Maxijets are about as reliable as they come. The part that will be most likely to crap out on you is the ceramic impeller (normally craps out from owners rough handling (breakage)). If your skimmer is factory new, then the best way to break it in quickly (before seting it up actually) is to wash it in very warm water (no soap) to remove factory oils. The oils being removed is the so called 'break in period' so to speak.

Technically it was a used skimmer if you could call it that. A co-worker had it sitting in the box and never set it up because he went with a Coralife unit. Got it at a sweet deal :) . But I did clean it with warm water as I clean most things before putting them in my tank. Still not pulling anything yet. I set the cup low as the instructions said once it starts pulling scum I'll raise the cup.

Would someone please explain to me why the H+S 150 is only filled with bubbles for the upper 1/3 of the body? I just don't get the design and I am not at all impressed with the performance.

So how important are the pumps that we use to run these skimmers? Are they all pretty much the same? is 500gph from one pump the same as 500gph from a different pump?

Assuming this does matter, can someone pls suggest a pump for the DAS EX2?

No not all pumps are created equal. So it is said, so it shaaaall be written.

A 500 gph needlewheel pump will be different than a 500 gph std impeller pump.

Actually it is filled about 2/3 with bubbles. The reason is by design. They use larger diameter bodies than comparable skimmers. This allows for the same amount of surface contact time with the water column, but because the bottom 1/3 is empty very few if any microbubbles return to the sump.
Other people have asked the same questions about the H&S and if you "tweak" the H&S to have bubbles throughout the entire chamber performance actually decreases.

Here's a few pics of skimmater from my MRC skimmer. I cleaned the skimmer Thursday night and the pics are from this morning. So this is a little over 3 days of running. The waste collector had about 2.5 gal. of skimmate.

Jackson, you didn't sell your Beckett, did you?
