Rich,

All that planning certainly has paid off. My hat goes off to you. That is an incredible setup you have there. I can only imagine what your tank is going to look like now, all the pieces are in the right places.

What ever happened with the epoxy on the starboard?..Did you do it or did you go plain?

Great job, keep it up.

CTXmonitor, its amazing what you can do when you have no choice
having a 40" high stand was a huge help in squeezing everything in there.

Thanks a lot Pedro! Good to hear from you. This whole setup is kind of your fault :D . The first time I saw your tank I was bitten by the SPS bug....no stopping now, I'm planning my next upgrade already ;)

I still have the starboard with the epoxy and southdown glued to it. I decided to keep it because I cant scrape the sand off, its on there pretty good. I am actually waiting for one more piece of starboard (should come thursday)before I can add the rock and get this thing running. From the pics I have seen of the faux bottoms it just grows corraline on it a looks like purple sand
, but if you get some type of algae outbreak it is a PITA to clean.

ttyl,
Rich

I'd be more impressed if you had a hammer blowing in the tank.
:D :D :D
Just kidding, but what if the screwdriver hit the glass

Then this progress thread would have been set back a few months ;)

The screwdriver wasn't really blowing around that hard but I also did a test with a washer and it was all over the place. At some points it was completely horizontal. The reason for the penductors is not to blow the flesh off the corals
. I plan on keeping them pointed downward to keep detritus from settling on the bottom so it can reach the overflow and be captured by the micron bag and skimmer.

Seriously though, if anyone with a sandbed is thinking about using penductors....forget it!. You'll make a mess of your tank.

PS VIC don't do it

Thats pretty much all the rock I am going to be using...about 120lbs. I want an open look to the tank as well as a lot or room for flow to get between and under the rock structure so no detritus settles. Once the corals get in there it will look like a lot more rock ;)

nano, I guess there is an actual 7000ish GPH in the tank but I've come to realize that GPH is as useless as the watt per gallon guage. I have 6,000 per hr coming from the Tunze streams but the penductors with pressure rated pump (1500GPH) push more water. Although the penductors do pump a lot less water, the force in which the water is coming out of them moves more water in the tank.....I hope that makes sense ;)

Pierce I'm not 100% done with the aquascaping. I plan on adding a few small pieces of branch in the nooks+crannies so I have more spots for the smaller frags. I am going to try to cut back on variety and let corals grow big but I don't know if I can stop myself from gett that "must have" coral ;)

PS I got my Ranco so I'll return your's soon. Thanks a alot!

Here's a better shot of the rocks

The skimmer went crazy for a while when I started it up. Maybe it was a reacton to the epoxy on the cutting board? I also made a small change to the plumbing. I added a WYE check valvae which can be opened and cleaned..as an added precaution.
