My sound proofing... I used styrofoam with a cheap rubber mat on top since I had a lot of foam left over after using it under the tank.

I have to change the outflow line of the skimmer to a 45 degree to increase drain capability and reduce the amount of water fall to the sump (less splash). I used flexible PVC in most places to reduce head pressure from unnecessary elbows and I like the idea that I can adjust pumps etc while they're still attached.

Next Project....Electrical
To be continued...

I did the same thing with my stand. I had it built a few inches taller. It makes maintenance and access so much easier. It really looks great. Good luck.

great job so far! Even the 'thumbs up' pic!

I have one queston. is the inside of your stand polyurethaned? if not, you REALLY need to put a coat of something on it before you add water!

BC, I haven't glued all the plumbing together yet so, everything is going to be removed and I'm going to polyurethane the inside.....it's on the "to do" list. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the nice comments guys. I'm hoping to have water and in the tank by tuesday or wednesday.

Rich, it is looking fantastic! Good job so far, I also measured the difference in height between your tank's stand and mine. BIG DIFFERENCE! in height. I like it,
, at eye level.

Are you going to have a chiller on the system? I think that you are going to need one, since my tank would die in the summer without the chiller. My lighting heats it up too much.

I like the shot of the mess on the floor too, no one ever shows those. my place was a mess for at least two weeks.

the set up looks nice and organized.

did you make the box the filter sock is in? if not where did ya get that?

Shaun, I'm going to try the tank without a chiller at first. I do have a dual stage temp controller that will kick in some fans over the sump if the water gets too warm + I run the AC all the time....I might hook that up to a temperature controller as well...LOL. If it's not enough then I'll have to get a chiller (I have a planned location for it just in case). I like the taller stand as well, only thing is that i need a step stool to reach in the tank (which I don't mind ;) )

Jonathan, yeah there is a crazy mess in my apartment. The styrofoam made the biggest mess. I had to use it under the tank though or else glasscages wouldn't honor the tank warranty.
The filter sock box came with the sump that I bought from Pat at Aquarium Solutions. He has more of these things so I'm sure he can hook you up.

the worst mess I got was when I used a jig saw to cut my marina board in the kitchen area. cutting the board made the particles static charged, there was black plastic everywhere! it stuck to places I'm still finding it. I even went slow in trying to cut it, but that gave me some lame cuts.

I need some filter socks, I can make the holder for them. I have two drains so I'll just have them dump into one big sock opening.

by the way if you need any custom acrylic parts cut let me know. I have access to a laser machine that will cut through any size acrylic. think of it as a CNC plastic machine. you put the plan of what you want cut into the computer and the machine does the rest. the only drawback is the material size you can fit in the machine. I think 2'x2' might be the biggest piece that will fit in it. it's for making signs.

Don, The black thing on the right is a foam block.....mainly to stop bubbles from entering the return pump.

I filled the tank with freshwater to test the plumbing and check for leaks. Everything is good and the tank is fail safe

I'll post some more pics when I get the livestock in there. I'm still waiting on an extra piece of starboard to get here before I can add anything.

PS the flow in this tank is incredible!!!! The penductors with the GRI return pump make a really forceful flow.
