My 1000 Ga built-in tank

OK, I ordered and paid for the hardware today, and would have done the same for the glass but they had quoted for all starfire when there are only 2 viewing panes- so I should cut that cost right back by reducing the quantity of starfire.
I also had to get two ( 8O :roll: ) pool pumps as they are apparently not sposed to run continuously. The ones I am getting should give me around 22 000 liters (4500 GA) an hour in flow- divided proportionately between the old and new system. (ordered and paid)

Also ordered, a reef octopus skimmer (I love Deltecs, but backup and spares here have become an issue)
200 kgs of coral sand (440lbs)
3 X 250w MHs
12 X 80w T5s (Half blue, half white)
Zeolith filter (I dont see much about the zeolith system on RDO, but I am being assisted by a very capable friend here who has had fantastic results using it in conjunction with Vodka)
Marine ply and polystyrene for the stand, Steel for the stand
Piping for the plumbing and silicone for the construction.
I expect to order the glass and the bracing later today.

The new system will be a coral tank and the old tank goes FOWLR.

My back and knees hurt just thinking about all that work you have to do. Building my former 300G tank nearly kilt me. I can't even imagine doing 1000G.

I'm getting a friend who builds tanks for a living to build it, I dont have the confidence in my building ability to attempt this alone. :?

Here is the tank room roof being poured this morning. Its a good thing I was there to insist of conduiting for the lighting hood to be put in and encased before the concrete went in.

Just got the shipping invoice for the glass, they are sending down two boxes with a combined weight of 1024kg (2252 pounds)... the heavy one contains the base and side panes and comes in at 880kg, with the bracing packed seperately at 144 kg.

It is a bit daunting, but should be interesting as a challenge. Everything in the house rebuild has been made oversize, I suppose the tank should be too.... I'm just puzzling where to get the 600kgs of live rock its going to need from.....? :?

Patience, it will all become clear in time. The tank needed the electric points and plumbing all built in- given that my existing tank is running off the same sump and pump- and computer. The actual brickwork is by far the most complex part of the construction, it will be clearer when you get to see some glass and salt water....

These pics are not current, although they show the distribution board and double plugs dedicated to the tank room and the extent of the viewing panes (two).
