EintheC ( Eric) pretty much sums it up for me. This site is what the members make it. There is a ton of content generated by MR admin-- a daily blog, a quarterly magazine, databases, access to nationally respected figures etc. but if people only log on to check the marketplace, then it is what it is. And that is sad.

I would also add that people need to take a breath and reread their posts before they hit send and maybe, just maybe pay a little more attention to the words they choose and the tone they take. There are many ways to get across the same information or opinions, but HOW you choose to express these determines how your ideas are received.

Well worded and respectful constructive criticism is rarely if ever the cause for drama. Shot from the hip, rude, thoughtless bashing almost always is. Words matter. Tone matters. In essence, MR is everyone's clubhouse, not just your own personal one. Treat other members the way you want to be treated, the way you would treat others in your real home.

I view MR as a community already. It seems that way to me.

I've recently started visiting Reef Central for cyano information and it has a different feel. When I log onto MR, it is like I am coming back to the old neighborhood and getting a chance to visit with all the characters again.

It may be hard for some of our neighborhood characters to find time to visit a second home in cyberspace, so, I understand that contributions to forum threads can be uneven, not discussed enough or have followup that is slow. As for the occasional cyberspace street fight, well, stuff happens. It isn't so rowdy that we have to make any major changes.

It never hurts to consider change or some evolutionary move forwards. Count me in.

Dan

Do mean a face to face meeting scared people away???

No it didn't scare people away, mods literally kicked them off. I mean from my understanding there was a bit more than just discussion, and that "more" was people just trading frags during the event and I guess the MR hiererchy didn't like it so bye bye to the good people that tried to get something going

I hope it can get back to the way it was 5 years ago. What I think MR should do is a minimum of 50 posts to sell or buy, if after your first one hundred posts you are a troll or start to be a nuisance you get a time out where u can't post for 30 days. If it happens again 60 days and after the 3rd time your banned. For any older members starting to be a interruption on MR a 5 day ban from posting next of fence a month and after that 3 months 4th time a ban. Maybe this will keep the nonsense off the boards. People know they can pretty much say and do a thing they want with almost no consequence

You have a great plan. You should go start your own site and implment it. Then you can also decide if someone is a nuisance. I think this is an excellent site and your constant criticism of it is getting old.

With your plan people can be a nuisance between posts 1 and 99 with no conquences. Once they reach 100 then they are subject to repercussions. Is that correct?

I know it sucks but this is a fourm where people interact. My comment was relavant to the topic so suck it up and take your own advice. Grow up, stop crying and move one if the site is so bad. I hope you don't because everyones experience and opinions matter. Your trashing of the site is getting old.

By the way I posted that because I knew you were going to reply to it. Most trolls are easy to get going :) thank you.

Great you are a troll that came out of the closet. That is whata troll is. Someone who comments to get a rise out of people and to cause trouble. Congrads.

Your welcome. I guess you troll with pride.

Seems like a reasonably clear starting point.

While I love the idea of total freedom, chaos generally sucks. Trolls have no redeeming social value. Having said that, I have to admit the difficulty in defining where to draw the line on trollism. Experimenting with different criteria might be a reasonable way to find where the communities comfort zone is with respect to allowable trollism.

Why not give each member a "troll voting button" to vote on trollish behavior per post. Each forum member would have a living score on there signature that would get updated. Maybe put it next to "friends". This score would go up or down depending on the number of troll votes per week. The score would be mostly feedback to the forum member who could then do a bit of self-reflection. Members with high troll numbers would be sent to the cyano room for a week while they learn their lesson :)

Just a thought

It's amazing duke you have been an important member of this community since jan. 2007.

Let's get back to topic to making this site a better community. With the trolls I think we are still great. But the family community we had back in the day needs to return quickly.
