I want to be the first to admit my wrongs. Recently I have acted out in certain ways that are both hurtful to my character and more importantly to the meaning of MR.

Now on to my point this is a community message board. It is about a hobby that is supposed to unite us. While at times we have to agree to disagree we are still here for a unified purpose.

I propose that we *try* to bring this back to the foundations and keep our threads and posts on topic and meaningful in our discussions.

Perhaps we should have a bi-weekly (unofficial) 'street' meetup where we can all act out our feelings :Starwars: However this should be an informative and fun site and recently I think it has lost much of this. I am confident though that if we all try just 10.786 percent harder we can make some progress.

Who's with me and/or against me?!?:banghead:

Its a great idea...its too bad it won't work. You have nothing to apologize for cmantis. You ARE one of the people that make this a community. Its the rest that make this place a garage sale that aren't interested. It's sad that i go to other forums because they have more meaningful, thoughtful, and technical conversations than all the anecdotal, my scraper is bigger than yours opinions on this site. I mean MR if you take it by numbers and consider it a "club" is probably one of the biggest in the nation...we have smart guys here...but you think MR could ever host a MACNA? We're a glorified craigslist for reefers. Sorry to say it, I wish it wasn't true. Without Josh, Randy, and others, who probably only keep this site around to support their efforts on reefs.com, this site would be garbage. Yeah once in a while we have people come through for each other in a crisis...but there's no real comradrie here. Just guys who have traded with each other and some who are just good guys to begin with and who would be good guys in whatever pit you threw them into. I really wish this would change. We don't even have good relations with the real clubs in our area....what is wrong with us?!??

Inevo is right. MR is a Classified Ads Website. You're fighting an uphill battle Mantis. I think this has a lot to do with our geography. New Yorkers suck. Come on guys, you know we do. We're rude. We're selfish. We're negative. We're only out to make a buck. And truthfully, depending on your borough our accent is TERRIBLE.

By creating this thread I think you're heading in the right direction but you need to think smaller. Find a really good group of guys on this site and make them your hobby bros. ....and I think you have that already.

If you want help arranging a meet up, please shoot me a text and we can make something happen. I think it is a great idea, we arranged some MR sponsored events over a year ago but a lot of people do just treat this as a giant craigslist. Those who do come through to the event always have a great time.

I would love to engage in the local reefing community.

As a newer reefer, (new to NYC), That is the reason I joined MR.

I have been getting advice and building reefing friends in a couple other forums, as it just seemed a lot friendlier, (no offense to anyone here).

I just am passionate about this hobby, and sustainable reef keeping in general.

I want to pick the best brains here to be successful and I know NYC has some of the best there is.

You mean like a fight club? Lol sounds like a good idea , I know that over the past year some doors have closed from reefer to reefer , and for some others have opened , I for one have taken to help people and begin a trade and no profit approach to the hobby and it has been a good year on mr for me so excluding that , I think it's a cool idea , but where would it be ?????? And when?????

I personally think (if anything) the site needs more active participation in threads other than the marketplace. We don't need to have a local fight club or anything like that. A semi-regular meet-up can't hurt, but really for the site itself, people need to actually POST. Just contribute. That's it.

If someone wants to come on here and only use the buy/sell forums, that's fine. It'd be better if they would contribute elsewhere, but you can't force them to (think of the 50 padded posts from other forums.. do you really want to see "great pics" 50 times? I don't.. and at least those will be deleted if caught on other forums). Hell, for me-- I just simply don't have time to post on here often. When I get a few free minutes I usually just read. From my post count, you can see that I used to post all the time, but there's simply not enough time (for me) to do that currently. (And honestly, my recent threads really don't get much traction. Even the good ones started by others get hardly any views or posts). That's the problem.

If everyone here who complained about this site would actually DO something to make it better, like start an informative thread, it would do much more.

.....I'm off to go make a post :D

I will do you better. I will round the 10.786% up an make an 11% harder effort. I don't think this place is as bad as some people make it. Yeah there are some WTF moments but you just have to laugh any it and move on. overall this place is pretty good.

That's crazy , I'm not selfish, greedy or here to make money off of people and I know a few good reefers who are the same way , I help total strangers quite often on mr , and the crazy thing is that I'm not alone , I see many other reefers go out of their way to make sure anothers livestock survives and more often than not are eager to lend a helping hand , we are reefers and friends brotha , not savages.

There are plenty of other clubs and forums where breeding, conservation, and research efforts are much more valued then that are on MR. My take is to leave them on the sites better suited to that nature. MR is good for selling your stuff at the lowest acceptable prices.

As much as I defend this site and the market place there are some members here who think like this. They don't care about anything except getting selling their stuff.
This site has a lot to offer outside the market place.

Good thing the people who think like this is in the minority. They just make a lot of noise for a small percent. They are also the same people who try and make it seem like everyone here is a flake and are constantly complaining about the mods, which I think do a great job.

I always read the articles on the homepage which cover a wide range of topics from conservation to ecology to captive breeding and more. I actually reposted one written by Paul not sure of his last name. He happened to be a member on a different site and gave some more in site into the article. Manhattan Reefs and Reefs.com are more then just a market place.
