i agree that the yellow tang is in that tank because our hobby. But it's not reason to keep it sick. I think the point of this thread is that, the animal is sick, in a tank with other fish and it should be taken care of, and petco is not doing that. Whether that is a store policy or an employee that's just there to collect a paycheck, that animal shouldn't be left to die.
Well as far as adding salt to the sump, many stores do it including a well know store in our area. Not calling the name. I guess no harm done by doing it i don't know.I was in Petco a week ago (union square location)
I was checking around and I saw one of the guys from aquatics doing water change
and guess what ??
the guy was adding salt directly to the sump, no measurement, no remorse
those fish we all love don't deserve this, it's true these fish are in those thanks because of us but at the same time when we keep fish we take care of them and love them like is our own child ( in my case ) and most of the time they do better in our tanks because they won't be eaten by a bigger fish, etc.
Petco is one of biggest chain store that hurt many small pet stores. Why would a store take on responsible to sell a fish if they can not keep the fish healthily long enough to sell it. Only makes more sense that the place that's supplying Petco the fish be hell as much responsible and us for buying at a place. I wrote to CEO with no respond as of yet. I give credit to Petsmart for not selling saltwater fish. Maybe that's why they name is Petsmart. I also notice that ATM selling they product for fresh water only. Wonder why?
They are a business they need to sell to make money every aquarium store i have went to had dead fishes some mismanage more than others. Also depends how long they have been sitting in the tank. I visited most of the vendors on manhattan reefs for live stock and generally they have been pretty bad except for brian at diamond of the reef wish he reopened.
i dont know what lfs you have visited but the ones i have been in have healthy fish. Sure might have one or 2 out of hundreds that dont look at their best but overall they are healthy looking
Clean what up? Don't buy saltwater fish there, you will be sorry.I checked out Union Square petco today, and it seems like they have cleaned up their tanks. Maybe the pressure is working?
There are somethings that are impossible to spot with the naked eye. Even if the fish eat a belly full that doesn't mean all is well. There is a long list of cooties that fish carry. That's why it's suggested to quaratine all fish before display tank...A good reefer can spot a healthy active fish a mile away , also if they want to sell the livestock they won't hesitate to feed them upon request so you can observe feeding activity .

Ummm first post and its on petco HMMMM. First of all keep your tanks clean and keep your fish healtthy and medicate your sick fish and maybe just maybe do your job and keep your job. Kinda simple if you ask me. Do what you were hired to do and stop complaining when customers complain about your livestock and how irresponsible their employees are how bout that. Maybe step up and people wont lose their jobs
