Yep big box stores in all their glory... and they wont even discount obviously sick fish to someone willing to take the chance. Its just really sad. If a big name store were selling dogs or cats In this poor condition you can bet theyd have serious issues with authorities. Why are fish considered less significant? I have pet my fish in the past, granted I didnt cuddle them... ok I did.. lol

I believe over year ago a story broke out about Hawaii boycott selling Yellow tangs and other fish to Petco. I wrote a post over a year ago about same thing about their fish. Only answer was stop shopping there. Big chain store for at least for fish department is a complete failure. Only thing Petco is doing is showing you if you don't know how to run a saltwater System. This is how you get ick and sick fish. Only thing they can do is sell dog, cat ,bird stuff. I blame wholesaler that sells they fish to Petco. Shame on them. I heard they not allow copper in there system and don't have hospital tank either. I used to look at their bettas and even those are sick and to small. Terrible .....

I just sent emails to all of them

This petco location is next to my house, I never got live stock from them, & now it looks like I'm not going to get dry goods from them or food!!!!
most of the time the SW live stock looks bad!!!

Part of the problem:

1. They pay bottom wages, they're not going to attract passionate knowledgeable aquarists when they severely underpay.

2. They try to be significantly cheaper than most LFS by moving the most volume. Say what you will about how expensive Manhattan Aquariums is but the quality of their livestock is generally a cut above because they source from reputable wholesalers.

I've been in Petco's where they had saltwater fish in freshwater tanks and vice versa. The Union Square location is actually probably the best location because they at least don't put fish in the wrong tanks and actually acclimate and attempt to quarantine although they're not allowed by corporate to treat with medication.

They get all there fish from ORA. Talk about a suprise.
