yea the sock is under at least 4 to 5 inches of water thats why i put them in there...the flow from the overflows i thought would break it up...should i leave them in there or put them somewhere else....
all the sand and some of the rock was live...i threw in 4 jumbo shrimp from the supermarket...tank has bin running for 2 weeks or so....started to get some readings on the nitrate and i bin mixing up the sand once a week....no live stock.....maybe after new years i will put some clowns in there ...
well i was not seeing any change in the nitrate levels and all the others ....there is about 3 to 400 pounds of live sand and i lost count of how much live rock....anyway....i bin checking the levels for while now and still zero everything .....i talked to someone at the lfs and he asked me how much live rock and how much live sand and did i use and water from another running tank and i said yes to all.....he asked how long the tanks bin running and i told him about 3 weeks to a month max.....he said it is possable that the tank cycled itself with all that live rock and live sand plus the water from another tank in the two or 3 weeks i didnt test it.....just wanted to know what everyone thinks....
That is quite possible, I have set up other tanks and even upgraded using established rock from my tanks, Never used live sand, just bought the Pink Samoa I always used and threw in a handful of sand from another tank. It only takes roughly 24 hours to get the entire sand bed covered in live from that handful. Another possibility is the test kits are bad. My last upgrade though I used all my old rock added 30 more lbs of established live rock and about 40lbs of base. Added all my corals and fish that same day and had no readings of a cycle to speak of.
