Yeah I've heard that can happen especially with live foods. I've never experienced it myself though. I offer live foods about once a month but primarily feed frozen mysis.

Anyway, the male seahorse that was carrying must of released the fry while I was at Mohegan Sun :irked: The good news is the horses were back at it again and I was able to take some bad pics

Is that a huge gut on the seahorse? I've seem one that looked like a huge bubble but wasnt sure what it was.

In this instance the male seahorse is trying to show off the size of his pouch so he can mate. There is also something called Gas Bubble Disease which results in the seahorse having an enlarged pouch.

If you found the seahorse in the wild with an expanded pouch the seahorse is most likely carrying eggs

LOL. This was the first weekend in a long time I could spend some time watching them. It was awesome watching the female deposit eggs in the males pouch.

So thats how it works. I thought is was that the eggs are visible on the stomach like on a pipe fish.

Ever consider using local substrate collected from a LI Sound beach?

All of my tanks use local sand. I collect the sand dry and run it through a strainer screen. The screen only lets the fine sand pass through. It is a PITA to do it but considering I have 4 tanks with DSB it saves me some loot.

great pics dom, is all that macro locally collected? will/have you shut off your chillers or will you need to run them in the fall and winter as well?

Thanks Andrew. Only the red macro is locally collected. Most of the other macro was from bob 1000 (tobin). He gave me a portion and it grew like crazy. I will be keeping the chiller on. I did raise the temp to 72 degrees. I'm hoping that the cool winter will help keep the chiller from kicking on.
