thanks for the responses! I have to say that the tank is where it is due in large part to my very happy association with Randy and Pratt :)

...and to my good friends, mentors and vendors of MR.

And yes, Awi, I am VERY happy! (if only I had more time to appreciate it...)

I have a six-bulb T5 running. The most recent pics may look a bit washed out b/c one blue light is out, and I need to replace it - but I have excellent growth on my corals, and am very happy with the fact that these lights are pretty cool.

Here are some post-swap pics of the corals and fishies in my tank :)

i dont remember if i posted on this, but if you didnt already dont get peppermints. there are 2 main types one wont even look at aptasia and the other might possibly think of looking to eat it, but both do eat corals. just a hint, try a copperband, or a tassle filefish.

...time for updated pics. A few corals have moved into the kitchen tank (which will have its own thread after the frag swap, I think), and I've got new frags from prattreef (with whom I am blessed to work!) I just want to document growth and share - though I have to say my camera sucks for delivering true colors, and I refuse to photoshop anything at all. In particular, I have to figure out how to get it so that the sand does not blind white everything on it and near it.

so here are some pics... enjoy!

(the pinkishpurple with blue polyp stylo accidentally fragged as I was taking it off its plug. grrr)

wow nice color on that pink millie:)

Thanks!

In terms of peppermints - I had had luck with them in the past. The thing is that some peppermints will eat aptasia. anything that will eat aptasia may very likely also eat other corals that look a bit like aptasia... I have a LOT of coral in my tank, and I also have a peppermint shrimp in my tank. I know that since I got it, my aptasia population has gone down (though I also take them out by hand from time to time with a concentrated boiling hot kalkwasser solution delivered by hypodermic) - it is possible that the peppermints are also bothering some corals from time to time, but I have enough corals that he must get enough to eat between what I feed the tank and the aptasia, because nothing seems to be really suffering!

Though I will admit that the last fish I will add will likely be a copperband butterfly!

Hey

Thanks for the Info, Is it a 6x54??? and you have no problem keeping sps. The reason why I ask is because I'm thinking about making the switch from MH to T5 on my 75 gallon. Also what brand fixture is it and what bulbs are using in the fixture??

the fixture is the Tek fixture for the T5s. it is 6x54, and I'm running three actinics, three whites - to know the exact bulbs i've got in there, I'd have to check with saltwatercritters (Jim and Russ), as I never write it down and I don't remember. All in all, though, I've been very happy with these lights. As I said, they run cool, and I've got great growth!

Thanks, Anthony!

It's a 75 gal, and I'm definitely feeling like I'm well on my way to having outgrown it....

The slimer is a "heritage" coral - it is a frag of a coral that used to be in Greg Scheimer's tank. I am privileged to have a few frags from his colonies. It is a special coral to me for that reason. (Greg was a long-time and very well known reefer who recently passed away after a battle with cancer.) Its name in my tank, therefore, is "the Scheimer Slimer."

:)

My daughters have adopted the sun coral. They love it. It is very bold!
