only some peppermints eat aptasia, but all of them will eat corals. Tassle file fish eat aptasia, and total aquariums has a juvenile for sale, give it a shot, that and kalk blast everything in small amounts.

good to know...

sadly, there is clearly enough to eat in my tank w/o touching aptasia, i think... so i've got four peppermints in there who are TOTALLY slackers IMO... sigh. oh well.

I got syringes yesterday, so i'll be calking the buggers (aptasia, not shrimp) tonight!

OH! I came home last night to see the harleys DOING IT!!!! I got a pic of it with my phone camera, but it came out a total blur. :(

loved my tassle file fish, wasn't aware of it eating aiptasia tho it may have. I don't believe they are considered reef compatible though (maybe just because they love to eat the shrimp, and mine ate fanworms too)

...so I'm in Hawaii now, and the one thing I was worried about in coming here - of course - was leaving my tank. But I reasoned - i have only one fish... Chances are pretty good that everything will be okay... barring power outages.

So i get on the plane to come to hawaii through phoenix, AZ. We land in AZ, no problem, get on the plane to Hawaii and have to turn back after getting out over the ocean b/c of a very sick little girl on the plane. We land, and I call home to see how everything is going - and my power is out!!!! Luckily, there are folks living in my apartment while I'm gone, but GEEZE - really??? UGH!

They had to take the room's AC off line, and I don't have a chiller. There is a fan blowing directly on the tank, so most likely all is well... but I am honestly thinking that one of the costs of vacationing for more than two days is the cost of replacing corals that don't survive my absence :(

I'll give a full report when I get home.

And you will find pics of my Hawaii adventures on a different thread when I upload them :)

Aloha!

gearing up for MACNA... figured I'd post a where-the-tank-is-at now and tonight I'll add pics when I get home. There has been SO much growth in the past five months that some of the corals I have barely resemble the frags they were such a short time ago :)

You'll see that I've got a problem now with red flat worms, but there are no fish in the tank now (Telulah the happy yellow tang now resides at Pratt in the back tank, and Clown is at Atlantis on Long Island!), so I'm going to do a FWE to make a dent in that issue before I add fish, and some of the fish I intend to add will keep any planaria that survive the FWE in check.

Check back tonight after 10 for pics, and enjoy! :)

okay... so here they are - you gotta look through the posts to see the growth - on some of the corals it's astounding how much they've grown!!!! Thanks for looking :)

there are two adult pocillopora colonies in my tank, one green (from Joe at Atlantis), one pink (from Dr. Mac). They have had babies! I have seen about five babies so far - including one growing on my mag float!!! Here are a few:

...time for updated pics. A few corals have moved into the kitchen tank (which will have its own thread after the frag swap, I think), and I've got new frags from prattreef (with whom I am blessed to work!) I just want to document growth and share - though I have to say my camera sucks for delivering true colors, and I refuse to photoshop anything at all. In particular, I have to figure out how to get it so that the sand does not blind white everything on it and near it.

so here are some pics... enjoy!

(the pinkishpurple with blue polyp stylo accidentally fragged as I was taking it off its plug. grrr)
