i was at a party on saturday and a nyc police officer i went to school with told me as a ironworker i can legally have a tinted windshield and we are the only people that can.is this true?
wtf!or maybe an insanely white albano.
First of all you can get tickets even with out of state plates. Your car has to be able to meet all the Inspection and safety criteria of the state you are in, no matter if you are a resident of that state or not. But as far as tint being legal or illegal in NY, The tint law in NY is up to 35% on the front windows. The windshield can be any darkness, It just can't go past the mark on your windshield. There is a small line in the upper right hand corner and in the left of some windshields, You can legally go to that line. Your back windows can be any darkness. Now if a cop were to give you a ticket or pull you over for the tint and they say it is to dark tell them you want them to measure it. They have a tool to measure the darkness of the tint. The only other way is to have outer state plates thay cant give you a tick for tints but can bust your balls about it. I know i went throw it all the time had my windshield tinted to.

Ok First of all the tint that allows 35% of light to pass through is known as 35% tint. And also you can get a ticket if your car does not meet the standards of the state you are in. I mean after all my father is a Lt. and I have 7 other Officers in my family. I have had dealt with tint issues since I was 15 and I'm now 31. I worked in a tint shop when I was 15. I mean unless you know more than 8 different officers on the laws ranking from 5 years in to a Lt. with 35 years in, you might know something they don't. And also just so you are clear when someone says I have 5% tint that is equal to 5% light let in, just like 50% tint would allow 50% of light to pass through. I have never heard anyone come in and say I want 50% light to pass through. They always say what # they want or they look at the charts on the walls and say I want this one.Your wrong it 35% of light that passes throw the tint not 35% tint ans you won't get a tick if you have out of state plates
FROM NYS DMV website:
The front windshield and side windows on both sides of any vehicle operating in New York State must allow at least 70% of any
light to pass through. The rear window may allow less than 70% of any light to pass through if the vehicle has mirrors on both
sides that can be adjusted so the driver has a clear view of the road and traffic conditions behind the vehicle. The rear side
windows of any station wagon, sedan, hardtop, coupe, hatchback or convertible must also allow 70% of any light to pass through.
That's because your friends are idiots and they do not know any of the laws. Secondly it is spelled tint not tink, Once you learn to even spell what you are talking about I might give you some credit. I bet your friends never asked to have the tint measured, They have to do it on the spot or else they can't even write the ticket, by law. Most people do not understand the laws and want to get out of a traffic stop as fast as possible so they will take the ticket and leave in fear of getting another one if they say something. Just like when they write tickets for noise, Unless they officer has a DB meter to actually measure the niose level he can't legaly write the ticket. But they still do and people like your friends still pay the tickets. And yes 35% tint on the front windows in NY are legal.70 % is 30% off light if you subtract 70 from 100 = 30% of light . your right albano
As for jaa1456 you can think 35% tink is legal and it not you can even ask a cop and he will tell you no i have so many friend that have 35% on there cars and alway get tickes and complain i thought it was legal.
