It`s probably Bush`s fault.......
I think the liberal media is exaggerating the problem. Rush limbaugh told me that everything will be fine because oil is "natural".

All marine species are scheduled to expire by the year 2050... The oil is already starting to get sucked into the merry-go-round Gulf Stream. It's getting more and more interesting living on this planet. Better get guns, ammo and biohazard protection. Oh and sell those waterfront properties that'll become worthless once the glaciers melt down completely and submerge your mansions.
I used to be optimistic but the way the things are going for this planet - they suggest otherwise...
And since NO ONE really cares, it is up to us - hobbists now to preserve the variety of the species still in existence.
Sorry for a bad mood post

You guys realize the majority of the electricity you're using from the electric companies are from burning fuel from one of the oil companies right?
I suggest if you don't want oil companies drilling for oil, then either go out and get some solar/wind power generators or unplug every device in your home and stop refilling the gas in your car. If you take MTA, thats also using gas for the bus, or electric from the electric companies which use fuel to turn the turbines generating electric, therefore supporting the oil companies so you should refrain from that as well.
2/3 of all new oil discoveries are in deep water drilling. If we lived off the 1/3, the price would shoot up like a tangent curve, based on availability and demand, and only the super rich would be able to afford it. Everybody on this forum except probably a select few will afford it, and those that do will not waste it on a reef tank.

...
driver, is haliburtion.
...

Do you mean "Halliburton" not "halburtion", the company that also do like leasing coffee makers, laundry machines and such to our army aboard that charges $5 per cup of coffee to our tax money?

The spill is bad but there were a lot of worse ones in the past. Due to our current of state of cummincations, much more people hear this case and more general citizens are concerned with the natural environment than the older generation, so it sounds like the worst disaster on earth ever.

The lack of insightful info in the news could only indicate two things, 1)there are cover ups or 2)the insitutions handling the spills are not serious enough to treat this as a real disaster or their sub-conscious awareness of nature's importance still lacking.

However, with all the newer technologies, experience(especially from previous oil spills), and wisdoms, we should spend a lot more effort than currently is, in preventing things like this. Unfortunately, many administrations spent more time and effort in weapons and/or destroying some countries. Citizens should also raise our own awareness of nature globally not just our own shore.

It's currently the 15th worse spills in the world, hopefully, it stays that way and cleaning technology can catch up.

I don?t get this post. what are were trying to say? Its like your apathetic. Almost like your bothered by people who care and can put the blame on the ones who are guilty of the crime.
Yeah, we need oil right now simply cause solar is a new energy and its expensive right now.
Because we are crude oil dependant shouldn?t allow government, oil companies or who ever to be so haphazard when drilling or installing fail safes. Because people talk about the problem doesn?t make them conservative extremist or tree huggers, simply makes them concern citizens of the future and the damage greed is causing.
Yes, yes it. It all comes down to greed and not wanting to spend the money. Now its not only going to cost BP but everyone. Bp will make the money back at the pumps. In the end who suffers? The consumer and the ocean and everything that use it.

My point is, the same people who want BP to be shut down because of this will be the ones complaining when prices of oil goes up because of lack of oil if off shore drilling ends. People want to vent off steam just by playing the finger pointing game. Everybody has greed, not just oil companies. If they said they can install a third failsafe device on all drilling wells but gas prices would go up 40 cents a gallon across the board, no consumer will agree to it. Are we going to say everybody in America is greedy?
If you want to help IMO, you should start driving an economical hybrid car (non-luxary otherwise you're just getting more horsepower and same crappy mph), invest in solar panels (if your location gets plenty of sun) or you can opt in to use electricity generated from wind/solar from your electric provider (which costs a few cents more per kWH)

Yes, its a shame this oil spill occurred, but there is plenty of coverage on it already. We're beating a dead horse. They're already doing what they can to clean up and the government is investigating how to prevent this from happening again in the future. Unless you're a specialized engineer on drilling oil, you're just speculating on what they could/should do and playing the finger pointing game again...which solves nothing

I don?t speculate at all. They screwed the pooch by F-ing up the water and making a soup sandwich at it. Its that simple. Yeah there is plenty of news coverage. I like to talk to people and maybe see where they are coming from.

The way the Gov't is set up we are basically forced to use electricity... How much would it cost for a solar powered generator to run my home? Exactlly my point. In the long LONG run it might save me a few bucks but as of right now I am forced to stay within my budget.... However if there was a safty valve in place of where bp was drilling i think this would have been avoided. I think it would have costed 100k plus but look how much they are wasting now with the clean up... they should have taken the pre-cautionary measures needed and advised but didnt.

Solar power for everybody would be just as expensive if the gov't provided it. Thats why the best they can do is provide subsidies for consumers to buy their own solar power setup.
And there was a safety valve but it malfunctioned. The 100k was an optional 3rd safety valve as I understand it, but that's 100k PER well. In a perfect world, you would know which ones would fail and only install it on those, but we don't live in that perfect world.
A quick google shows there are 3858 platforms in the US Gulf. Each platform would support multiple individual wells, sometimes as many as 20 or more.
That's just the Gulf, if you multiply that by account for around the world, that number gets exceedingly big.
