Was in a curve at about 130kph and downshifted from 5th to 4th to pass. Car went into 2nd instead. It's a known issue and there were several class action lawsuits in the late 90s. The tranny sways and if you shift in a curve, it sometimes goes into the wrong gear. Aftermarket rsm is the fix. Too bad I learned after the fact. I just replaced the whole engine.

My father owned the same car only in black. Ccar NEVER did that and I would drive it hard when I drove it. I never heard of the class action suit either. 5th to 2nd??? Driver not tranny

Between the Audi and the Bimmer I think professional driving lessons are in order Lol....

If it did you'd have been in big trouble. Google "e36 transmission lawsuit" and you'll find remnants of the lawsuit on forums but BMW has taken it off their database and lobbied to get it off most enthusiast sites. I did skip barber in virginia almost a decade ago.

lol a demon i havent seen any1 with that. Thats a really nice ride. e36 did have lots of tranny problems, there a quite a bit of TSB's. The TSB' talk about hard shifts or problem shifting so it does seem possible. Did u replace with a stock e36 motor? u want a super e28? i have my e28 88 528e gonna junk it soon.

I have read up on them. Like I said, I had the ability to drive one whenever my father wasn't driving it Lol. I got the car when he passed away in 98 and promptly sold it. The Majority of the issues where the 98-99 and a bunch of later E46 and Z3 coupes.

Either way that's a lot of damage. Surprised it didn't lock the tranny and send you into a nice uncontrolled skid as that's what happens when you go from 5th to 2nd at the speed you were going. I'm also surprised the tranny didn't grenade itself either.

Ramz28, trade for coral? lol Car was sitting for almost a year (not easy to find a good BMW motor in Brazil) and I sold it last year. I was hoping to keep it as it was the first truly awesome car I saw at my first show at the Javits when I was a teen and I had always promised myself I would own that exact car/color/interior one day. Also, as I drifted farther and farther away from retiring in Brazil, and the dollar dropping each day, I got an offer and sold it. One of the hardest sells ever...

Didn't lock at all, not even a shudder. The rpms went through the roof and the car nonchalantly slowed to a halt. Very smooth, actually. I rolled right into a gas station.

The 67 Chevelle was a LONG project. 383 Chevy w M-22 4 speed and 12 bolt Posi. Ran a 12.27 @ Island the day the pictures were taken. The Nova was a ground up Resto of an all original SS car. MISS that one. The 5.0 was a BAD A** sleeper. GT-40 heads and Intake, Comp cammed and Vortec SC. Was an HONEST high 11's car on slicks. LOW 12's on street tires.

man i wish i still had a 1\4th of the cars ive had but a move to NY and having a kid puts cars on back burner, one day i'll get my 66 fastback brought up from ohio so i can finish it.

Strgarz on the nova what did you do to the rear suspension as that was the known issue with them, seeing these cars takes me back to where i grew up at. everyone had either a hotrod of 4 wheel drive, grew up running around with Bob Gliddens son's so ive had the chance to ride and drive some real monsters

wonderballz i drove a 2002 it was modified but very nice. best place for info on 1 is at a the bimmerforums. That car has so much trunk space!!
stgazr, SICK CARS!!!, I have my 5.0 ttop im restoring, Previous owner ddint believe steel rust. Left the tops off and when he decided to go pull it out of the river the floors where gone lol.

Back in 87 when I re-did it there wasn't much to choose from. I had a set made at a place in Babylon. I forget the name but they were a nice setup. It was all original so it wasn't pushing crazy HP at the time. I have a 502 still wrapped in plastic and sitting in my in-laws garage just dying to be put into something. I'm thingking a 67 Box Nova with mini-tubs

Ok lot of good car talk, lots of beautiful cars, but something is missing............. where's the trucks????????????????????????????????? so here she is 99 ram 2500 cummings diesel. bought new in 99 buy my uncle only option it doesnt have is leather, but who wants leather in there pickup. shes starting to show her age of 12 years and 270,000 miles but still runs like a champ! upgrades include 4 in turbo back magnaflow exhaust, 3 peice pulse exhaust manifold, aftermarket clear and chrome one peice headlamp assembles, rancho dual shock steering stabilizer, tires 285/75/16 kumho road ventures from stock size 245/75/16. note truck never as dirty as in pics.

there's a 78 or 79 z28 up my way f\s lol would take that 502 to pull that sled, out of the 60 something cars ive had i am still a mustang\camaro guy. dream camaro besides a 69 yenko would be a 70.5 split bumper camaro, and love my 66 fastback but would love to get a 67gt500 lol if i hit the lotto

IF I could find a '70 Split Bumper worth restoring the 502 would be unwrapped already. I went to HS with a guy Carlos who had a SB and that car was pure beauty I work with a guy who has a 67 FB Stang that is all original that he keeps pushing on me.. He wants $8000 for it and all it really needs is paint, interior work and a bunch of trim pieces..
