Frank,

You're 100% correct. In NLCS game 7 where the Mets were losing, in the bottom of the 9th, with the bases loaded, with a full count, and with the entire country knowing a curveball was coming, Beltran (the Mets highest paid player) looked at a pitch right over the plate thus ending their season. They haven't made the playoffs since.
I was close I thoyght it was change up
either way MAJOR league choke:shhh:

I'm not sure inquiring minds want to know
I'm not a tabloid guy so I can deny or confirm your statements

I coach a youth hockey team of 7-8 years olds
on of my 8 year olds asked me why the Mets didnt do anything special for the last game at shea, I didnt have an answer for him.
what did the mets do for their fans?

I would have to agree the Mets can be entertaining
reyes has to be the smartest base runner I know,
I love his dug out demeanor :argue:

oh and Minya is classy the way he fired Willie

is there going to be any mouments in Mets stadium to honor past Met greats?

IMHO the Mets are nothing more than an upper class AAA organization

Okay that's where you cross the line and go from friendly yankee met bashing to down right insulting.

As far as am I concerned; IMHO the yankees have been choking every year since 2001. Maybe one day when you people stop drinking the pinstripe kool aid you will see that.

Arod batted .302 and had 35 HRs last year... he hit better than any of the mets and it was one of his "slow" years

seems to me the mets had a more exciting season then the yanks last year.tell u the truth thats what i look for in a season.not a blowout and not a my team is going no where in august.

I guess you could call it exciting when the starting pitcher leaves with a solid lead only to give up the lead every time the relievers come in. Definitely alot of lead changes in Mets games last year. I don't consider that exciting...it's frustrating.

The Yankees were never in the playoffs last year. They were trailing most of the year. They had a bad year, they didn't choke. The Mets, on other other hand, in 2007 and 2008 had the playoffs in their grasp until the final games of the season. Then they choked and missed the playoffs. Up until the Yankees missed the playoffs last year, they had made it every year since 1995. You can't call that choking. In that stretch they made 6 trips to the world seris and won 4 of them. Not bad. The Mets did make the world 1 year in that run and they lost...............TO THE YANKEES!!!

Are you guys serious?

The Yankees are the first team ever to win 95-plus for six straight seasons without winning a World Series in any of them. So send the following memo to Tampa ASAP: We've figured it out.

What Boss Steinbrenner's money does buy: April through September.
What it doesn't buy: October, which apparently isn't for sale at any price -- even for close to a quarter-billion dollars.

The Yankees set a record for most consecutive postseason series in which they led the series at some point. That Tigers series made it 28 in a row, starting in 1981. Anybody recall the last series the Yankees never led in? Would you believe it was the 1980 ALCS (when they were swept by Kansas City)?

But now the other side of the story: If the Yankees have led in all those series, it means that, in each of the seven postseason series Joe Torre's Yankees have lost, they had to come from ahead to lose all seven.
They led 1-0 in the 2002, '05 and '06 Division Series. They led 2-1 in the 2003 World Series and 1997 ALDS. They led 3-2 in the 2001 World Series.

? You probably could have figured this, but the Yankees are now the first team ever to lose postseason series in which they were ahead in six straight seasons. The only team that has even done that four seasons in a row, according to the Elias Sports Bureau, is the 2000-03 A's.
And just two other teams have blown series leads in three straight years -- the 1991-93 Braves and the 2002-04 Twins. ? OK, let's finish with one last attack of good news: The Yankees' streak isn't just a baseball record. Mariam reports that it's a record for all four major North American pro sports. The only franchise to come close was the 1986-2004 Quebec Nordiques/Colorado Avalanche -- a team that led in 27 straight series (the last 23 as the Avalanche) until a 2004 loss to San Jose.

I'm so glad to see this directly from a Met fan himself. It shows how thoroughly the Mets have crushed your desire for a championship.

salute!!

but may i chime in here for a minute. what i love more is the fact that some mets fans (duke62) :D have to take there time out of there day to start a hate thread on the yankees cause it there team really is horrible. case in point:

NAME THE ONLY TEAM TO

choke on the last day of the season, to the same team? now some met fans can argue here-- did the mets really lose to the marlins and all of there 26 million $ payroll or did they really lose to 98 million dollar payroll phillies? i dont know. u pick. but in the end -- did i mention that they did this to the marlins 2 years in a row? LMFAO.

BUT HEY LETS TALK ABOUT THE YANKEES!! :D:tongueani:splitspin

thats more important to a mets fan then there own team. not the above mentioned question.

well there are points in timbers post here but hey lets examine this part just a little more. remember 1998>? how many games the yankees won>? and yes they won the whole thing.

yes our owner takes the time to invest back in our team. his product to keep us there. and he is one of the only owners that will do it. make no mistake about it.

hate the game! dont hate the playa! (as devious would say! :D) we dont set the market. in fact its the market that sets everything for the yankees. i can say hey, what team always has to pay more, what team always has to give up more in any trade? the yankees. case in point Johan santana. NO way the mets package was as good as what the yankees offered. but hey i tip my hat off to them they got the job done. as a result the minnesota gm was fired for accepting the mets package and the yankees was far superior for the cy young of the AL. so if we have to go and use the thing that we have to in order to get things done. then so be it. thats the collusion in baseball. make no mistake about it. the yanks have to do this. and then everyone else cries about it. well hate the game not us. we follow the rules just like everyone else. check on all of those teams who recieve a lot of money from the yanks, red sux, mets, angels, and tigers. how they REALLY SPEND THERE MONEY! u honestly think they put it back into there product>? NO THEY DONT! or they use it with bad choices. does anyone really not know that john henry is one of the richest in baseball? as is arte moreno. as was fred coupon, and the owner of the braves? they choose to make there own money and spend it that way. thats on them. why didnt anyone say anything about the red sux offering the 180 mil for texiera? oh its ok cause its the red sux. LMAO. or is this the mets fans crying because of the way carlos beltran would have taken a lesser contract to play with the yankees? i dont know.

but here is another point that i dont see anyone crying about- dont look now- the yankees are 20 million under what they were last year. now what? oh yeah nothing. RIIIIGGGGGHHHHHHHHTTTTTTTT! again hate the game not the playa!!

i dont see any fan in baseball crying about the 26.9 million that the yankees are giving tampa, marlins (TEEHEE), royals, pirates, twins, rockies. why not? LMAO yeah cause they really put that into player development. yeah 5 million for baseballs maybe. lol.

watch the yankees will make some trades soon clearing up some more payroll and by doing that- they will allow themselves to buy some other players- now people will be crying about that as well yet there payroll will be lower then last year. LOL.

which brings me to the mets:

they are as well going to open up there new ballpark as ours. looks great by the way
they get 20 mil a year from citigroup for naming rights so that vertually pays for santana. so there 146 payroll minus the 20. now they are raising tickets prices as well. to offset the cost of the stadium. even though they are getting a lot of money from the city to build it. we all know they have the money.
do they invest wisely. no IMHO. they could easily get a manny, or lowe, or another outfielder. do they? no. y>? they dont want to put somthing on the field for there fan base. its on there management.
they now also have there own tv network that is worth a lot of money as well.
they have way better parking for there stadium then any arena sports complex in new york. that generates a lot of money.
there seat cost in shea and citi are comparable to the yankees.

take the red sux:

at present- the highest ticket prices in baseball. BTW for the record they have successfully sold out every game over the last few years. amazing. and then technically dont have a stadium. they have a park. they have no mezzanine. so by technical terms its not a stadium. and what are the red sox excuse on why they have the highest ticket prices in all of baseball? the yankees. they need to do that to compete with the yankees. LMFAO on that one. and if you believe that i have a bridge to sell you. they could easily go and build a new stadium. henry is to freaking cheap. you need a tetnis shot to get into that dump btw. they claim history. yeah keep believing that one as well.
i can go on and on. so please just relax with all the cost spending and hating on the yankees.

merry christmas and happy new year by the way. glad to see santa came 2 days early for the yankees :D thanks santa for texiera
