Johan, Carolos Delgado, Pedro Martinez, K-Rod, JJ Putz, Ryan Church, do I need to go on?

Don't make it like the Yankees are the only team to add big name free agents to their team.

Im a METS fan but they tried to do the same thing. And they keep losing.
Yankees just like attention. A farm system wins while some money helps but $161 million is crazy.

Who had the 2nd or 3rd highest payroll in baseball last year? The Mets are just like the Yankees only just not as successful. I assume that's why you're bitter. How well has the Mets farm system done for the last 22 years?

you know what the yankees projected payroll will be 230 million while the mets projected payroll is 100 million.stop buying or at least trying to pay for a championship.at least the mets were beat by a club that had a high payroll as well not a team who together made the same amount of money as a-rod

Right, so you hate the Yankees because they have a high payroll and try to buy championships but it's ok for the Mets to lose to a team that has a high payroll and buys players to win championships? Wow, makes sense.

You should be a rays/marlins fan cause neither team likes to spend money on free agents. The Mets now have 3 closers on their roster (Wagner, Putz and K-rod), talk about trying to buy a championship. The Yankees payroll will be less in 2009 than it was in 2008.

ummm i think wagner is done.the projection u looked up on google is incorrect they forgot to add the superstar they are trying to get now.the phillies are a competitive team whos payroll are competitive with most of mlb.at least they lost to a projected winning club in the beginning of the 2008 season.161 million they wanted him so bad they paid 61 million dollars more than any other club in baseball would have given him and i am going to love it when cc hurts his back cause of his weight problems.and the funniest thing is they hire a manager who none of the team respects instead of bringing back a man who is a proven winner and is respected by the whole league.

Wagner is done for 2009, but is under contract for 2010. So he's still a Met and still getting paid. Didn't look up any projection on google, the Yankees had 88 mil come off payroll and they have spent 62 mil so far. That's a 26 mil drop in salary. While the Phillies payroll is competitive with most of baseball, it was still 40 mil less than the Mets. Yes, I know, the Yankees payroll was higher than the Mets and 5x more than the Rays. But no matter how high the Yankees payroll is, the franchise makes money.

The Yankees have money to spend, so they spend it. You can't blame them for that. Blame your team, or their owner, for not being willing to spend enough money for the Mets to make it to the post season and not choke.

Yankees projected payroll is less than $200 million for 2009. Don't forget Mo Vaughn, Todd Zeile, Robin Ventura, Johan Santana, Armando Benitez, Luis Castillo, Roberto Alomar, Mike Piazza, etc, etc.

Yes the Yankees spend a ton but the mets are among the top 3 year in and year out along with the Red Sox and if you go back a few years, the Braves where once a huge spender :)

All 26 of the Yankees' championships weren't "bought". Just the ones since Steinbrenner took over

Now that's a great read. Thanks Deanos. Enjoy it Mets fans (especially enjoy the part about Beltran taking a curveball for strike 3 in game 7 of the 2007 NLCS, in the bottom of the 9th with the bases loaded.)
