the yanks have had excellent products come up through the system. at present there are jorge, jeter, cano, mo, pettite, and fron the starts there is melkey and hughes. this is the best time of the year. sorry duke i know you are bias like me. its all good. yanks are having $80 mil a year. so they will put some of it back into the team. just not that much i think.

as far as i am concerned: i would trade cano and hughes for lincicum or cain. or for kemp. sign hudson for 2nd. sign texiera, lowe, sabathia depending on money or burnett, depending on money. thats about it. and wait for next year. kazmir is a free agent after next year.

The yanks will wind up with Teixeira and Burnett most likely because they have both played in the AL. I would like them to keep Hughes, trade Cano, Melky and Kennedy. I say don't sign Abreu, Giambi, and Pavano. And try to get Mussina at a discounted rate since he's older.

poor duke. spoken like a true met fan who hates the yankees.

first everyteam buys names for themselves regardless. the yanks have there share as well as the mets. how else was the mets built? i mean come on already.

delgado - traded for from florida (side note he never wanted to come here)
beltran - free agent
church - trade washington nationals
wright - farm system
reyes - farm system
castillio - trade and resigned as a free agent. side note(can only play 3 days a week according to him ) LOL
tatis - free agent signing
schnieder - trade from nationals
castro - farm system (did not play cause of hang nail :) )
p martinez- free agent
santana- trade and resigned
pelfrey - farm system
wagner - free agent
hielmen - trade with oakland i believe
duanar sanchez- trade

after this its all scrubs. honarary note- endy chavez who to this date has made one of the best catches i have ever seen in a real game. platoon leftfielder

so if your angle is youth? thats about it. we have our fair share as well. and no one has traded cano away. while i would just to get some better pitching.

still to date for yankees :

jeter
cano
posada
melkey
pettite
mo.

all except melkey has been paid for there contributions. take them off the systems payroll then u see the payroll for the yanks.

here have some fun with all this stuff duke. and why havent you started a thread about citifield since you work there like Fry with yankee stadium? BTW for the record it looks really nice.

I'm not saying the entire Yankees team is homegrown, but they have more homegrown key players than the Mets. Jeter, Rivera, Cano, Posada, Chamberlain, Wang (yes, he worked his way through the Yankees farm system)

Everyone says the Yankees try to buy championships. Every other team that contends on a yearly basis does they same thing, they just haven't been as successfuly as the Yankees have with the players they bought.

It's true they have more key players, but many of them are getting on in years. Some of their talent was traded away this year. Though I can not say if the talent could've done better for them if they stayed. I agree with you that every team tries to buy championships. But I don't think the Yanks have been very successful. :tub:

The future for the Mets is also not all too great. Even though they have Pelfrey and Maine to anchor the rotation, they're not enough. Martinez is probably out. And it's likely they won't go for Glavine because I believe he's headed for surgery this year. Niese needs more time in the farm and Perez, well, I'm sure they'll try to keep him, but it's not a certainty he'll stay. And the bullpen needs a real change to really make them contenders this year. I don't think Ayala's cut out to be the every night closer. He has a tendency to fold when the pressure gets too high. Wagner, if he does come back, it'd be at the end of the season. Not enough to help much. And isn't he retiring after '09? They have a decent outfield platoon, and their infield may need just a bit of tweaking. :tongue1::tongue1:

They definitely need Schneider more than Castro. Castro's just not a everyday catcher. And you have Maine written in twice. Heh,:tongue1: I don't think he'll last the 6 months if he has to pitch twice in the rotation. They definitely need at least Perez. Though I don't think the Mets are willing to pay what Scott Boras is going to ask.

Johnnyice said "last pitch" so I thought maybe they had somebody throw the last pitch from the mound during the ceremonies after the game. It would have made sense to do that, so the last pitch wasn't the pitch to end the Mets season and close Shea Stadium.
