Thanks for the personal attack. I believe it is up to each person to determine what they believe is a sign of respect or lack thereof. Your input is appreciated. ANyone else have an opinion?

BTW, I don't know how many times you watched Seattle team, but if you do, Ichiro clearly knows how to speak English. He always jokes around in the dugout with other teammate. I really don't know how well he speaks but unless his teammates all learned out to speak Japanese, he does joke around alot with other. Obviously, he doesn't feel comfortable speaking front of 60+k people + I don't know how many people watched on TV. Why is it so bad to speak thru translator?

With all the crap in baseball (and other sports) right now you think Ichiro speaking through a translator sent a poor message? This is a guy who never complains and just shuts up and plays the game as well as anyone.

I hope my children grow up to be like Ichiro!

Although if my children are japanese I am probably going to have to have a word or two with my fiance...

because she's not japanese.

so it would mean she was sleeping with someone other than me.

which would mean the children wouldn't really be MY children, so I guess this tangent is kind of moot anyway.

hmmm

LOL.

That's so true. Can't speak english in MLB is the least worry right now. They got tons of other serious problems.

I think Americans that speak Ebonics should use a translator.

Do you think Americans that play ball in Japan all speak Japanese?

Missy Johnson tell us what is really annoying you.

With Europeans flooding the NBA, it seems only the NFL remains almost entirely American/Canadian among our popular pastimes.

:usa1:

I would rather have Ichiro use a translator than have my children idolize some of the NFL thugs. How many baseball players have been arrested for felonies this year. Compare that to football. Half the bengals were arrested just to name a few. And don't even start with the NBA...

Congrats to Ichiro, a player with class...

ok my 2 cent's. him not speaking english at that time make's no differance. he can speak it but chose to use a translator to make sure what he wanted to say was said and maybe hasnt learned all of the english in it's proper term. so i am appriciative that he took the step to make sure we understood what he wanted to say. now if this bothered you why doesn't the million's of people living in america that dont speak any english nor try to learn it bother you ? or does it. atleast he pays taxes and is attempting to learn or take precautions so he is understood

It bothers me....you want to play in America...learn the language. Even the Latin players i laugh all the time cause they in this country for soooo long and their english sucks...but congrats to Ichiro anyway...arent you supposed to know some type of english to get your citizenship...then again the MLB probably just buys the citizenships for the players...
this is some really disturbing comment. this is really bringing us back in time again. I'm not going to get started because i will guarantee you this thread would be closed. But it may just be that AMERICANS are not the best baseball players in the world. and sorry to disappoint you, but scout's are not sitting in our back yards looking for our talent. There sitting in other countries looking for the best players in the world. Take away the minority from this sport and you will probably have a better time watching figure skating. The last time i checked this was the USA. A very diverse country that is put together from all great nationalities. I don't care if they can't speak English. There not here to teach my children in school. there here to play baseball and i don't think you need to speak English for that.... Or do you.

Well here goes...

I think that if you live here you should make some attempt to learn basic English. It doesn't have to be perfect and who cares if it has a heavy accent, but at least try.

Both my parents have an accent even after 40 years in the country but you can understand them fine. Now my grandmother on the other hand, can barely speak English. How's that possible after so many years in this country?
