Jack russell terrier are small but with the amount of energy they have, they would definetly get stir crazy in an apartment. The ones I saw in the dog run (15 acres) was bolting around like crazy and they held their own with the larger dogs.

best dog ever, Portuguese Water Dog

my girl is just over a year old, really great dog, i live in an apt no problems.

take your time and do your research, i cant even begin to say how much time, energy and money it costs to keep a dog, but the rewards are well worth it.

get back to me if you want to talk about this, as i just raised a great puppy.

try to go to local dog shows to see breeds you like and dog parks(which is where you shold spend lots of time if you get a pup)
you have to narrow down what size dog first, than living situtation(kids, apt, etc)

Grommimng requirments are a very grey area. For example a Lab, brush thats it, BUT they shed like crazy so figure spending some part of everyday getting hair off of something. my dog the say groom req is high, but that is if you want to keep a show length hair on her, i brush her only when dirty and she doesnt shed(((big big deal)))) and get her cut for $50 every 2 months

Really call me, i spent almost a year looking into dogs before i got one, also mike(slama) is the resident dog expert.

and dont buy a dog in a pet shop...... and dont price shop, if you spend 1500 on a pure breed where you can meet the parents and have a puppy selected for you skill level it is well worth it. the inital money is nothing compared to routine care of the puppy, let alone emergency services.

simike - Portuguese Water Dogs are awesome!!! When I was younger my parents were planning on gettting one but when we went to visit the breeder they also had Lakeland Terriers and we fell in love with them. After some research we went with the Lakeland and we have had him for 13 years :)

If you are looking for a smaller dog check out the Lakeland Terrier, very warm, freindly and energetic dog!!

get a cocker spaniel! med to small dog.. not a barker like some other small dogs..

i love my cocker spaniel. the only problem is they shed too much. my boy Ace(avatar) is gonna be 4 this october. time flies. he's very energetic and playful. loves to dive into mounds of snow in the winter. loves fetching and chasing pigeons and squirrels in the park. they can be quite a handful as they need all of your attention daily.

I have a female golden retriever who is smart as hell, duno if you can keep a bigger breed but they are def great companionship dogs, just remember if they are outside alot heart worm pills, and some dogs when young and small have very brittle hips....

Pitbulls Rock!!!!!

i got this guy for free and by chance. the thing is we are so alike in so many ways even though hes a dog. i connect with this guy. his name is frankie blue eyes.oh and hes practically smarter than all my friends. hes a great protector of the house and if raised in the right enviornment they are overall excell at every task.

when it comes to the breed you want all i can say is go with your instinct not what anybody else is.
As for what you really want take Simike advice. consider getting a purebreed and try to see the parents before anything. and factors in those digits. when i got my dog i really didnt factor in all those factors(it was like take him now or hes going to someone else or a shelter and it was love at first sight) but its working out. and find a good vet.

Froggie .also remember that what ever dog you get ,your gonna have to walk him/her everyday 3 time a day ,winter spring summ and fall .if you get a puppy ,be ready for it the chew your belongings (shoes ,shirts ,sofa and more ) also puppies pee when they get happy or excitied to see you and others .Its not only the breed to you need to think about

Make sure you know the cost of a vet ,as they need to go 1 or 2ce a year for check ups .,dogs are great ,but they are alot of works as well ,time and money

How about a small POM :)

Mine is old... weight about 9 lbs. Everyone thinks she is still very puppy like. She or POMs are very independent but can be very affectionate. They are smart and don't have any barking problem. Small poop to pick up, trained her on pee pee pad and I don't really have to walk her outside. She gets enough exercise just running inside.

This after her lion cut in the summer :)
