So, I'm looking to get a dog.
What should I be looking out for?
What should I request or demand?
Don't know what breed yet but something that has little grooming requirements.

get a smaller dog ,Easy to take care of and the dodo is small :tongue1:

othere wise , go over the pros and cons on what type of dog youre getting ,Size ,good with kids and other animals ,easy to train ,and oh yeah YOU are the most important in your decision ,make sure you can take care of the animal ,walking the dog in the rain ,snow ,sleet and so on

Good luck ,i went through this 5 years ago ,and desided to get Sonny :tongue1:

i would suggest a :
jack russell(energetic, small and very smart)
daschund(small,playful)
chihuahua(small, pitbulls in disguise :biglaugh:)

others that come to mind but need grooming are:
**** zu
miniature poodles
miniature doberman
yorkie
pug
french bulldog

there are so many too choose from. do lots of searching and reading before buying one. they are a big responsibility. bigger than a reef. yup, i said it!

Any dog you get is gonna need something to keep it amused while you are away. People suggest that you have a fish tank for the dog to curl up in front of while you are out.

I don't know if this is true, BUT IT'S WHAT I HEARD

I have a Shiba Inu, its as big as a beagle. Very unique dog, it grooms itself like a cat. They are distant cousins of the Akita family tree.

Mui, how are the shiba's coat. Do you groom often? Do they shed all over the place? I got a few questions with your experience...call me if u can when u are free to talk 917-403-8256

call me froggie, no1 here can tell u like i can.
oh please, this guy doesnt even have a dog!

I love my samoyed (poor thing suffered with mike for 10 yrs) and wouldnt get any other breed (i got spoiled now). But this is not a small dog (50+lbs) and deffinitely needs to be groomed regularly (you can see all his white fur in my avatar), but grooming him is part of the fun for me - nothing like grooming a beautiful dog while watching the reef.

froggie,

get a video of the westminster dog show. I just deleted it from tivo - bummer. they describe each breeds requirements, energy level, personality, and grooming needs as the dog is shown. Great way to learn a lot about breeds in a few hours.

Also, do NOT pick your dog out based on looks. The more the personality and care level suits you, the better your experience will be.

im a fan of bigger breeds. american bulldogs, pits, german shepherds.. but if i were to get a smaller dog id choose between the min-pinscher, shiba inu, or mini-schnauzer.. jack russels r cool too, but like all terriers they have a ton of energy and will wreck isht if u dont socialize them/let them out enough.
