sonny....you've been in my car. didn't you think it was a harsh ride? they are conti 224/45/17 high performance all season runflats....not a big fan of them. super harsh ride....not that sticky but what do you want from a "high performance all season runflats"....all those words are just bogus contradictions. i think they are just adequate when it comes to handling.
just had two new tires replaced and 3 rims repaired. the tires were bubbled due to the bent rims from construction debris on the gwb/cross bronx. runflats can't be repaired. the only thing i don't hate about the runflats are the ability to drive home without having to make a dangerous tire change on the side of the road....and also no lost of control with "blow outs".
some of my favorite tires are the summer pirelli p zero's BUT YOU WON'T GET EVEN 15K MILES OUT OF THEM.
if you have to have all season then bridgestone potenza would be my next choice for "high performance all season"

Honestly, I didn't think your car's ride was harsh at all. I felt nothing tactile about the ride at any moment. If anything I thought it was plush =)

I know I don't have a sportscar any longer but I miss the type of ride that transmits every detail and any road condition straight thru your feet thru the pedals. My Vdub may not be a sportscar but it is so damn tossable and fun to drive.

I know there is no real A/S tire that can offer high performance but some are closer than others to actually acheiving it.

I was already leaning towards the Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS Pole Positions and I ordered them. They'll be in tomorrow!!! Now all I need is a new windshield =)

and so begins that search........

Price actually came out to be about the same ($80 more) getting them locally, mounted and balanced and on top if it I'm helping support the local guy!

Arthur's Discount Tires
Rt. 17 South (in the Exxon Station)
Paramus, NJ

No one has ever been able to beat their prices and service and I've been using them since my '98 Explorer Sport needed its first set of new tires. The more expensive and high end that a tire is usually also translates into the more that they can save you. It's been a few years that I had a car so I almost forgot all about them.

Try to call Benignos in Garfield. When I put tires on my truck they were the best prices hands down in the area..

Thanks for the reminder. I just called them. It came out to be a $40 difference and you're right they were cheaper but I'm not going to stop my order over $10/installed tire. I already agreed and told them to bring them in and they did simply on my word without making a deposit so that counts for something too. It would have been nice to do this in my hometown but I comepletely forgot that u mentioned them.

I got the tires on yesterday. Definitely softer of a ride than I was expecting so I guess it comes down to my suspension at this point but I'm not going to mess with that until my factory warranty is up. It may have been even better had I gone with runflats but too late now.

It rained a bit yesterday and just after the rain was done and the groud was still damp, I was at a complete stop, turned off my traction control, popped the clutch and expected my tires to spin and make that "whizzing" sound when they just can't grip anything like my old ones did. These tires definitely live up to their claim of being great in wet weather. For about 2-3 seconds my tires were screaming as they tried to grip the pavement. Not much of a test but I'll see if they live up to the rest of their claims. I had to take my foot off the gas because it was so loud, I thought I'd definitely get stopped if Thirty5 and the boys heard them. I wasn't expecting that kind of monster grip on wet pavement.

I thru it into a few turns (nothing serious) and I defintely see nothing but confidence builing handling so far but we'll see. Thanks to all for chiming in on this thread.

I saw that my rear brakes are in need of being replaced so I'm looking at the Hawk HPS all-around brake pads. A lot of people complain about these factory brakes being too soft so I'm hoping these will help. Again, once my warranty runs out and my braking system needs to be replaced I'll look at more powerful braking options and chip it out once I have the suspension and braking system to handle the extra HP.

Thanks again!!!

Anyone ever use Hawk HPS brake pads? I'm looking for something that will offer greater stopping assistance, not overheat and not squeal. My rotors are still good this time around so I'm hanging on to them til next time.

I had the Hawk HP Plus brake pads on my old 2002 RSX Type S (when I still had it). Those things were great! Had to do some serious breaking in though.

I eventually found out my autoshop uses the HP Plus on their race car. They said they really start working when they get warmed up enough (they said it usually took a lap around the track).

Never had problems with them.

At the time of that upgrade, I also did drilled/slotted rotors and stainless steel braided brake lines

Yup, I saw that the HP Plus pads were more for track than street. The HPS pads are a lot easier to warm up so that's why I decided to think about them over others.

Which tires did you end up going with?

I went with the Bridgstone Potenza RE970A/S Pole Positions. I haven't had a chance to really toy with them yet. I got them installed at 4PM yesterday and then picked up my kid. All she keeps saying is, "faster Daddy, faster!". I know I've done my job when she's sitting in the back of Grandma's car and she says, "C'mon Grandma, let's race!!!" We were the last ones in the lot at her school and I just kept popping the clutch until we made to the street. She was trying to grab one of her toys and everytime I popped the clutch it made it a little harder but she's got a good sense of humor so it was a good for a couple of laughs.

I dunno where she get's that from, I never go fast on the road with her in the car but I will take her to an empty lot now and then and throw the car into a couple of turns. The harder I toss it around, the more she laughs outta control. 4 yrs old and already a back seat driver!!! =)

Yeah, I think I had the HPS pads before I got the HP Plus. It was god knows how many years ago. haha. Either way, Hawk makes some great pads. I'm tempted to go Ceramic Brakes 1 of these days. Just too cheap to do it

she can graduate to a porsche child seat!!!!
i have one from a 911 that is no longer needed. she can have it.

I need some time to mull this over. I'm having a personal conflict of ethics at the moment with this one.

First off, I completely appreciate the gesture and ,"Thank you!"

But, you know those tools that wanted a Bentley and couldn't even afford the maintenance costs of one and then they went out and got a freshly taylored suit off the clearance rack at Marshalls and a Chrysler 300 and then really broke out the big bucks for a Bentley front grill that they swapped out for their Chrysler 300's front grill. I think I might feel like that! LOL

More importantly... I think that my kid should only have a seat made my Porsche if I have a seat made by Porsche to man the steering wheel and foot the clutch, brakes and gas pedals in!!! =)

AsianChris, I think you'll enjoy these tires when you get around to getting them. I've been pushing the limits a little more and more here and there and if I had a complaint, they might be too sticky.=)

That and my MPG has gone down by about 10-20% being that they're not Low Rolling Resistence tires.

That being said, even my passengers can feel how grippy these tires are versus my stock tires. Sidewalls are a bit soft tho eventho it corners better now than before so they're definitely a steup up fromt he Continental ContiProContacts which were Grand Touring LRR tires.

Next time around, I'm going to try the Michelins I think.

I have Pirelli Tires on all my sports cars. Best tire out there

When I get summer tires, I think I'll go with Pirelli tires but as for All Season tires, I'm not sure if the Pirelli P Zero A/S holdup as well as the Bridgestones and Michelins from what I'm hearing but the only way to find out is by trying them out so maybe in a couple of years, I'll try them out.
